Well, the good news is that i think I've finally gotten my roomy hooked on nitro's. The bad news is that my roomy is hooked on nitro's, LOL. Long story short, I was nice, let him drive, he clips a curb and bends the snot out of the right side TVP. Anyone have a sugestion for good TVP's? may as well upgrade them now since i have the rig torn down :hehe:

FAST LANE MACHINE! FAST LANE MACHINE!
Innovative RC! Innovative RC!
New Era Models! New Era Models!
RC Solutions! RC Solutions!

They all have TVP's I've been looking at for a long time. I finally chose FLM for durability and low CoG.

Innovative RC all the way. Fast Lane's are just bling. Too much rear extension IMO.
The 1" rear 6mm front LCG TVP's from IRC are the best on the market, with a lifetime warranty. He does not make you send the parts back for inspection either. I ordered a set and it just so happened he sent the wrong skidplate. One pic in an email was all it took. He sent me the right skid free of charge and let me keep the other one.
Everything fits perfect and is made of good quality al.
They are pricey though, I like the look of the New Era TVP's. Their price is a lot more reasonable.

The one thing I do know is that longer than old school savage TVP's makes the savage a whole new truck as far as handling is concerned. Much less twitchy at higher speeds and far easier off the jumps.

It's not quite as good as my fully mod'd aftershock for general steering, but it handles and is just about as easy to control in the air as the aftershock.

I have HB 1" extended tvp's. They seem to be pretty tough. Last weekend, I hit a curb hiding in the grass just as the trans shifted into 3rd gear (fairly decent speed). The truck shot up about 6 feet in the air doing flips and landed on it's roof. TVP's are straight as an arrow. I figured I'd have been picking up parts for a week after that hit. Just a decent gouge on the skid plate, but no other visible damage.

Innovative RC all the way.

I been thinking of these also, just unsure if i should go the Standard Race LCG TVP Kit or with the Extended 6mm Front LCG TVPs Package & dog bone - 4mm. The extra 1.5mm thickness sounds nice, but they claim thier alum is 18% stronger then the stock TVP's. Either way, I already expected to spend about $100 on this, so seeing $80USD after the conversion wasn't too bad.

Has anyone else here used the Standard Race LCG TVP Kit?

Fast Lane Machine...FLM...but do NOT order them through Addicted2RC. FLM makes them, but dealers sell them.

Twice as thick as stock, and really beautifully done.
Here's the extended and lowered CG TVPs and their hybrid diff/bulkhead.

I have the FLM TVPs and hybrid bulks as well and I really like them a lot. Very solid. Only thing I don't like is I can't run a standard Savage body since it is 1.6" longer now. But they are very bashworthy bling so it is worth it.

Rolex...you are my new hero! Just went to the FLM website and i can basically rebuild the entire chasis (skid plates and everything) for $140!!!!

Added extra bonus.....

Crispy Critters Hobby Shop is a LHS that is only 40 mins from the house AND a authorized dealer!

Doh! So if I go this route, I'll need to buy new bodies. New bodies means learning to paint....hmmmm. This could prove to be interesting.

Heck yeah you are in there buddy. Go hook that stuff up! Rolex is a lot of peoples hero. And as an added bonus he is faster than the speed of stupid!

One thing to consider, the race TVPs do not have the lifetime warranty.
Don't worry about the weight.
My midtanked 1" rear extended 6mm front LCG chassis with race tires and all 8 shocks, gpm al, diff housings and a bunch of other stuff...anyways the point is the truck only weighed 10 1/2 pounds without fuel.
My buddy ordered the race version fully extended, they are very tough.
He has had no issues with it, but he only races it. No major jumping, but to be honest racing is harder on a rig than bashing IMO.
If you bash go ahead and get the thicker standard LCG TVPs, the 6 mm extension helps but is not that noticeable. it's the 1" in the rear that makes the truck stay on all four tires when you nail the throttle. It will make wheelies difficult unless you have a strong engine and stiff suspension.

Hey now...I have to take some credit for that....I supplied the image, LOL.

LMFAO!!!! That should be OBVIOUS.

Now a another question comes to mind. What about weight? I'm using the OS 30VG and it has more than enough power for the current stock TVP's. In fact, I'd almost say too much because the way it is right now, it's a wheely king. How much more am I looking at adding if I get the entire setup? I'm more so a basher since there arent many tracks near here, but I do get to the track once in a while.

Duratrax warhead bodies should fit. I'm running one on my 1" extended savage and I don't see an issue with an extra half inch.

Just to let you know. Usually can be had on ebay painted for $25 or so.

Granted, the paint scheme isn't all that great and the holes don't line up... but for a basher like me, they work just fine.

I'm wondering that since the XL is longer and wider, if those bodies would fit well. What bodies is everyone else using on thier extended savy's? I'm kinda thinking/wanting to go "sleek". I have this vision of the longer rig rolling on some nice offset wheels/tires to give it that wider stance with a smooth but agressive looking body style.

An MGT or LST body would fit, but IMHO, it would be way too wide. Especially considering how narrow the savage chassis is compared to those. Length would be fine, but width would look weird to me.

I run MGT bodies on my aftershock and they are a bit narrower than LST bodies, but just about the same length.

The warhead body is quite a bit narrower and suits the savage center line better I think.

Just trying to help you out with references for even if you go with aftermarket stuff.

Thanks, I really apreciate it. I'll look into the warhead bodies and see what I think of them.

No problem.

Here are some comparison shots I've taken of bodies I've had:
2009-0510-BodiesWarheadGenisisLST2.jpg

Top to bottom: Losi LST2, CEN Genisis, Duratrax Warhead

Same bodies as above, but with my two rigs and the bodies:
2009-0510-BodiesWarheadGenisisMgtLST2.jpg

Top Right: Savage with 1" extended TVP's and Duratrax Warhead body
Bottom Right: Aftershock with MGT body

To make the savage look better with the warhead body, I'd have to move it back about 3/4" if not a bit more, but then the rear tailgate section of the body will make hard contact with teh ground and get ripped up within a single bash session. So, ignoring vanity, I mounted it further forward to make it last longer. Seems to be holding up pretty good so far. The new LRP I put in a few weeks ago makes a lot of body chewing wheelies... lol.

An older photo I took:

I was looking at that white Duratrax body earlier. I like the design on it, but the windows being all white kinda disapoint me. Now if they would have made the windows clear, that would be a choice for sure.

Is there a way to unpaint area's of a body? Keep in mind that I have zero experience with body work and painting as of yet.
