Are you planning on ever racing? If so, the Slash would be a better choice since there are numerous spec Slash class races. I'm waiting to see how the ROAR CORR class rules shake out.
However, if you're just looking for a fun solid basher and not planning on racing, the HPI might be a better choice in terms of reliability... but that's based on HPI quality in general and not the Strike specifically. The Strike hasn't been out long enough to make a determination on toughness. Bear in mind the Slash is a tough lil bastard too. I just have a general avoidance to Traxxas.
Both HPI and Traxxas have ample parts suppliers available so that's not an issue.

thats true the only thing that i like about the strike is that it comes with aluminum shocks and a spectrum controller so i don't know if it would be the extra money to get it or not

if you are only going to race possibly the strike but if you are going to race and bash then I would go with the slash. traxxas slash has the ability to endure harshest tracks and about any terrain. The only down side for the stock slash is its LCG. If you can gain the skill to get over that hump then the slash is perfect.
if you are all about racing and need a truck that can handle the hard turns then I would say the strike or even better for LCG I would go with AE SC10. Just my 2 cents.

If it were me, I'd go with the Losi Strike. The best of both worlds. I have one on order now.
I really like my Slash, But have never been disappointed with Losi. The extras you get with the Losi is well worth the price too! Better shocks,more even weight distribution(forward mounted motor,GENIUS!!),more suspension tuning options, The list goes on & on.

true true true i do like all the things that losi strike as to offer especially the spectrum controller thats a plus the few people that hace rc cars/trucks where i live have slashs and i like them i guess i am just nervous about getting the strike but i think i am going to get the strike
