Someone please help me here... I am about to buy a buggy today. My choices are between the Swift, the OFNA 9.5 Violator, the Hyper PBS, and the Hyper PCR. This buggy is going to be for bashing and just screwing around with... maybe one day I'll race it, but for now, it's just for fun.

I am new to the world of nitro 1/8 buggies, used to have electric buggies a while back, and just sold my RC10GT Nitro to buy a 1/8 Nitro buggy.

Bassicaly from what I have been reading, the PBS suspension is a better performer and stronger than pretty much any other out there. I am not looking to drop a lot of money, but if and when I break something, I want to be able to run up to the store and get a part... which I can not do for the Swift.

Everything on the Swift is so incredibly attractive and it really seems to be the best for the money, however the parts thing and from what I have been reading, gear mesh, CVJ pins and everything else seems to be an issue as well. I don't want to have to screw around with it too much and don't want problems out of the box... or potential problems anyway. I don't want to have to tear the diff boxes down to check gear mesh... defeats a RTR kit. I want to gas and go.

As far as the OFNA... +'s are that parts are everywhere and everyone has them, so help is right around the corner where ever you go. The down is that the electronics are junk bassicaly from what I read and you have to spend quite a bit of money to come close to the Swift.

All I want is good bank for my buck... I am not neccessarily going to race it for now, but I also want quality, I like nice things... so I don't want to cheap out too bad, but I want to be able to beat on it without worrying about anything other than the parts that I break... at which point I don't want to have to search forever to find them... I want to run up to the store on my lunch hour and pick it up.

Can you guys point me in the right direction? Like I said, I am goign to make a move today... I am just stuck now as to what to go with. I don't want to spend too much over $500 if I don't have to. Please help guys. Thank you so much!

These guys got the experience when it comes to buggy's someones sure to pass by and give you a suggestion. I would but I am more of a Monster truck guy myself.

I have not looked at Swift, so I can't comment there.

I'm not a huge fan of Hyper's for bashing. They seem to sacrifice some durabilty for the competitve edge. I hate Hyper engines.

I have a Violator. It is probably the best bang/$ if you're not already set up in nitro. The shaft start is nice, it comes with a hump pack, and the engine is very nice. Chassis layout is great, not a bunch of BS you don't need.

The first thing I would suggest is visiting your local hobby shop. That way you can see what RC's they stock parts for. Waiting for parts to arrive from a web sale sucks.

A few guys just picked up the PCR edition and seem to be very happy with it. Doing a search should provide more information about this buggy.

Just curious where in MI do you live? I'm in the GR area.

If you're like me, and your LHS's have almost no parts except T-Maxx, then it's best to find a buggy you can get good online parts support for.

One of the LHS's here even said to me, no joke "What is GS?" I mean, I would have figured that they would stock some damned GS silicone stuff like fuel tubing or something.

Horizon is very good for getting orders out quick, but unfortunately they are currently VERY bad at stock. Things listed as out of stock three months ago still show out of stock. So who knows. Too bad they are the official GS distributer.

Out of your choices, I would probably go with the Violator. They are all nice buggies but since you are looking to bash now and maybe race later I would wait on the Swift or Hyper PCR. Could you go bashing with them, yes. However I would definately consider them to be aimed at the racing side, especially since they come with the lay down servos.

Thanx all for the help, I really appreciate it. After many hours of debating and weighing the pros and cons, I went with the Swift... local support (for parts) is fairly decent, Swift's support is unbeleivabaly outstanding, and the buggy is one hell of a deal (bang for the buck). I the reasons I would have picked an OFNA over the Swift just did not outweigh the pro's of it. Anyway, I am extreemly happy with it, time to break er' in! Thanx again guys... I'll post my thoughts about the buggy after I log some time on it.

Ok if you get the PCR you can buikd it to be the Hyper 7 PBS or have it with aluminum knuckles. EEither way its a good kit..BUT the directions suck big time!!! Have a Digital Caliper to figure out what screw is which.!!!

I got the RTR, so as long as I pay attention to how I take it appart, I should be just fine to get it back together :) Thanx again.

Once you take it apart a few times you'll realize that these things aren't that complicated. I've only broken down my Storm a couple times (and not a complete break down) and I feel confident that I could be handed a bag of parts and be able to build one.

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I have been in this hobby for many years now, built quite a few kit cars, just never been into the 1/8 buggy scene till now.

Hey mcvickj, sorry for the slow response on your original question to me... I am from the other side of the state... Detroit area (suburbs of... of course). I wish I knew of some tracks in this area... I really am itchin' to get this thing to a real dirt track... it's fun running it all over off road and all, but actually running it on courses is what I really want to do. Sharpen up my skills a bit and maybe start racing it like I used to a few years back.

based on the support I would say a Swift, but that is just my opinion. I am hearing a lot of problems from PCR owners but I have not owned one.

Hey HumboldtBlazer, I already bought a Swift... you should already know that cause you have seen me in the Swift post quite a bit lately I'm sure!
