need a engine

hi, i bought a duratrax evader nitro for $10 bucks at a garage sale, controller and bag of parts , but it needs an engine, I'm in the detroit area local hobby store says it,s not manufactured anymore and nothing on ebay, so i signed up here looking for help, because i know nothing about this, just could not pass up for 10 dollars, car has upgrades in the front end has had money spent on it for sure. thanks for any help 1/10th scale

You should be able to fit any small block engine in there, look for something under .21.

I believe they came with an O.S. .18 if I'm not mistaken. If you can, take a few pictures of it and post them. There are people here that will be more than happy to help you get it up and running. My advice would be to read the sticky's at the top of the forum page and start getting familiar with how a nitro engine works.

Is the engine just bad, or missing altogether? If it's not present, you need to figure out what else is gone; it might not be worth fixing if you also have to procure a mount, exhaust, flywheel, clutch, etc. A nitro evader in running condition can be had for under $100 on eBay.

I'm not super familiar with that chassis, but I'm pretty sure you need a side exhaust, rotary carb and threaded crank, as these trucks were pretty much a copy of the Associated RC10GT. A really good little mill for the money is the HPI Nitrostar 3.0, which can be bought for about $80. I run one in a black tub 10GT, it runs 52 MPH and still has enough grunt to wheelie on demand.

The Nitrostars are all side exhaust, but are optioned with both slide and rotary carbs, as well as threaded or SG crankshafts, so make sure you get the right configuration (that applies to any engine you choose). Any .12-.18 size engine will physically fit the chassis. Bigger can be done, but it doesn't sound like you're ready for that kind of modding just yet...

I agree the Nitro Star is the best way to go. Small block, side exhaust, rotary carb engines are getting tougher and tougher to find and the Nitro Star engines are readily available in .15 and .18 sizes. Best of all they're cheap.
