Stop and think for a second,
Photography for most of us is a hobby, just like RCs.

Before you jump into it with both feet think about what you want and how far you want to go.

A decent consumer /Pro-sumer camera will cost from 500-1000.00
Think about what you really want out of a camera then start looking.

This is a good time to get a camera, the prices are coming down and the features are abundant. Just remember it doesn't matter how good the camera is if the lens is junk.

Just my opinion.

Eddy, do you have a link to the camera you are interested in, I'm not really familiar with the pro-sumer digicams, but I will gladly check out its specs and let you know what I think. I am quite partial to Canon equipment, but Olympus makes some really nice digital cameras in the 500- 1000 dollar range.

My current set up was in the vicinity of $6,000. I am saving now for the Canon D4 body which is the new digital that Canon has that will work with my ultrasonic lenses, that body alone is aprox. $5,500. The really nice thing about these digital cameras is they will 1 1/2 times the lens length, so if you have a 200mm lens it now becomes a 300mm. The only time it is a problem is for shooting wide angle. Just like you mentioned Ed if you buy a good camera but put a crappy lens on it you will have crappy pics. My 70 - 200mm lens was about $1,500. The lens is just as important as the camera if not more so.

Ok well I have decided I am gonna go 5 bills as my limit so I am taking recomendadions. X

X the only thing I don't like about that camera is the iso rating. I would like to see it somewhere from 100 - 800. With the highest iso on that camera being 400, it will limit the high speed capabilities, and lower light situations. The aperture range also bothers me 2.8 is great but 11? it needs to be higher like at least 16 or 22. Other than that it looks nice.

Ok well thats some good info atleast I know what I need to be looking for if you know of a cannon that has what you think is good qaulitys let me know. What I want is the best thing I can get for 5 bills . I also don't want the same ouch factor down the road that I have now. So even though you are telling me stuff I know nothing aobut now. In 6 months when i am learing how to use all this I dont want to be in the same boat were I go DAMN I can't do that since I didn't know I needed it to begin with .. X

X, if you see something you like send me the link, I will check it out and let you know what I think. I have found the absolute best place to buy photo equipment is B&H Photo and Video out of NY. Check their website X.

I was referring to a consumer level camera and a better than average consumer camera, Professional (Pro)-sumer.

I guess Pro-Sumer is a new word. :cheerful:

I went all out and got and got a Professional \ Consumer camera.

Here is a link to the Sony F-717 Here

Someone (You know who you are) on this forum can get a great price on this camers if he has any left.....

As like Eddy, I too use the Sony F-717 5.0mega pixel camera, this has got to be the best camera I have used thus far. Its got more features then I have even began to play with. Though this camera can cost in and around $1000.00 it is worth every penny.

Another brand to look into would be Olympus, while Eddy and I were at Comdex last year Eddy and I stopped and checked out their display/show. Olympus has some very impressive camera's for even better prices. If I'm not mistaken $400-500 for a VERY nice camera.

As far as other brands...Canon makes kick ass top end cameras but you pay top end prices too. I never really have cared for any kodak camera - I have yet to see one that has really impressed me, but thats just my opinion.

X, I'm not really that impressed with that one although is has twice the zoom the other one you showed me had. I really like the one Eddy posted a link to. That is a very nice camera.
