Josh, NASCAR is just evolving into a dull showcase of a few superstar drivers, and the rest are just a bunch of obstacles. Even though they implemented the Car of Tomorrow to be a more cost equalizing solution, the same 4 owner sit atop the board all the time. If you're not racing for Hendricks/Rousch/Gibbs/Childress, then the chances of you winning are pretty slim. The competition is getting thinner. The racing is less exciting. The days of huge packs at Talladega and Daytona appears gone. Repaving Bristol took all the bumper cars appeal away. Places like Vegas and California are marked by one car with a huge lead all day. And then we deal with the Chase which has given one driver 5 titles in a row which would have been impossible with the old system.
In an attempt to make NASCAR more appealing, they have destroyed it. Attendance is down. Revenue is down. The racing is less exciting. It has outgrown itself. I believe it's time for Formula 1 to push harder into the North American market. Or perhaps bringing WRC here for a few events. And I'd love to see something like the Australian Supercars to develop here in North America. Those are becoming far more entertaining forms of racing with far less predictable outcomes. Well..except for F1 which is usually won in qualifying and Vettel is the odds-on favorite every week. But it's still awesome to watch.
