I converted to an FOC with the center diff which of course requires the rear brake kit also. I noticed when I installed the brake kit that the 2 screws that hold the pads and 'rotor plates' (for lack of a better term) were barely into the plastic housing on the tranny. Any tighter and the brake would bind and cause the rear wheels to lock, any looser and the screws would fall out. I finally got it to where it held together, but anytime I took the tranny out, the brake would start acting up again (binding and cause the rear wheels to lock and release).
I noticed today that the metal 'rotor' plates had one screw hole all f'ed up, it was no longer round, more like rectangle with rounded ends. Probably from all the binding that was going on. I wanted to fix it for good, but these pads don't seem to wear down at all. So I took them off and rubbed them on piece of 100 grit sandpaper and made them about half as thick as they were before. Now I can get the screws into the tranny holes to a proper depth that they hold in place with binding the pads and without working loose.

That was a real PITA for the last couple of months, having to mess with it whenever I broke the rig down. Problem solved. I thought this might help someone else out down the line.

You couldn't have used longer bolts?

I tried, but I didn't have anything short enough, all my extras were too long. It's hard to find one any longer, but still short enough to not bottom out in the hole on the tranny case, they're not very deep. I was hoping to find an aftermarket kit, preferably one with a single disc, versus the dual disc that Traxxas put out. But I was unable to find anything, so I just fixed it with a little sandpaper. :D

Its deffinatly good to know I'm going for the same mod here in a bit. Tanks

The only advice I have is make sure when you're done that the rig rolls smoothly when you give it a push. Oh, and check the same thing whenever you have to remove the tranny. Maybe it was just my dumb luck (usually is) and no one will have a similar problem.

The first time it happened I thought it was the rear diff, so I took it out and found nothing wrong with it. It's a A LOT easier to remove the tranny than the rear diff, so always check the rear brake first....:hehe:

What stops you from running a single disk? You could just add a few washers outside the pad to take up the extra room. Or, you could dremel some screws to the right size.

I finally found a after market CF gear for the jato... integy makes one. Maybe they make a kit for the revo too?

Actually... the integy brake disk for the jato looks an awful lot like the brake disks for the revo: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLUD1&P=ML

Might be worth a shot. With a few washers to take up the extra slop, it might be worth trying.

Yes the rear brake set up is a pain in the &%@.A nice single vented disc like the front would have been sweet.I think they went with dual discs because its a tight spot and a small diameter disc is used.

Thanks for the tip Mr Clean!

I think you're right Olds, that Jato pad looks like it'll work, it has the same mount anyway.
I could remove one of the pads and try it with what I have now, I figured it needed both to compensate for the front brakes. I think I'll do that this weekend.

I won't be using a dremel anytime soon........check out the thread "Stupid, Stupid, Stupid" in the General Chaos. :D
