Man, what can I say? Second weekend in a row of drag racing. After suffering through the "heat dome" inferno last weekend, I wasn't entirely looking forward to this. I was still spent. Wife was a little sad we weren't going boating instead (so I tried to make up for it by inviting the neighbors over for a karaoke night and she was then very happy!).

The weather was certainly much cooler, but now the humidity was off the hook, so not really very nice, and due to this, a couple of guys with health issues stayed home. The biggest problem was the wind. Forecasted 10-12. Reality was 25-30 with gusts even higher. These people actually get paid to be this wrong?? So, with a smaller than expected turnout we got down to racing in probably the worst conditions I've ever raced in.

We spent two hours setting up and attempting to clean the track. Nothing worked. Five minutes later, track covered in dust/sand again. There has been a distinct lack of rain this month contributing to this problem, along with the gusting wind which was blowing directly in our face down the track.

My cars were all very dialed in, and I had done testing earlier in the week. I had hoped to put down some great timed passes. Instead, it was like driving on ice!

The tents had to be held down with road barrels. I'm not exaggerating when I say that a couple of times, the barrels were floating in the air! At one point, a massive downdraft even crushed one of the tents to the ground. Spent 20 minutes bending the thing back, managing to salvage it.

The racing, despite the problems was pretty exciting though. We had some very close, interesting ones for sure. In the end, one driver, Jose, was just fearless the entire day and took his car right up through the list with a chance to unseat Invader II in the final race of the day. I jumped out on him early, and when I thought I had it won, I coasted the rest of the way, only to see him charging up fast and we wound up in a photo finish with him coming up just short.

There was a huge event at the track, so we were treated all day to the big cars running.

At the end of the day, we packed up, went down to the concessions area to gulp Gatorades, and watch more of the big cars.
