i have a used nitro sport.with the car not running does the spur gear suppose to spin freely by hand.when i bought it the spur gear setup was all wrong so i replace every thing on it. and now when the rig cranks up shes gone without the use of the controller that is the spur gear proplem right?

If it has reverse, the spur spins either direction freely until it gets up to a certain RPM then engages a clutch in the the trans.

It sounds to me like your clutch is messed up. That would be the first thing i would check. pull the engine and see if the clutch bell will spin freely, you may have broke a spring, or melted the shoes.

Beason is correct. The spur will immediately turn the wheels when it spins but the main clutch on the engine should not engage until the engine revs up.

Have you verified the throttle position and that the linkage/servo functions properly(pull the air cleaner and look into the carb) before you start it? If it is then it has to be your clutch as suggested by beason.
