Hey guys here are a few pics of how the CRT build is going so far. I am almost ready to bolt the suspension to the chassis! Woo! Hoo!

This kit is taking what seems like forever, but I am just taking my time and enjoying it.

Tom do they really have you build it in subassemblies like that? Looks REAL nice, though. Extra heavy duty.

Is the Makers Mark for pain or to make the build go easier?

Yeah... I thought it would have started you out building everything onto the chassis, but it has you do everything one piece at a time and then bolt it to the chassis. I have to assemble the center diff and then it all goes to the chassis. It is pretty heavy duty stuff though. I reall having a blast. Thanks for all the help guys.

The Makers Mark is for a little of A... and a little of B! :wasted:

How ironic. I hate building shocks, diffs and turnbuckles, and they have you doing all that right up front. I like a kit where you chug along on the main part of the chassis for awhile and then get to the tedious crap. I even have built a car before and only did the turnbuckles when I needed to install the servos.

Nice Build tom.....looks like fun...I envy your 10 week vacation....you'll be running that bugger in the fields by next week I bet....

Yeah, I hate the turnbuckles.... my fingers are still hurting! Another reason for the Makers Mark! The shocks were not to bad actually, not as bad as I had figured them out to be. Took me about an hour and a half to put the turnbuckles and Shocks together though! LOL

Looks Beefy!!! Is that a "Pro" kit, you using upgrades, or are those the stock peices?

Hmmm I'd love to see it next to the Hellfire to compare.

Whats Makers Mark?

Hey Plaid.. It is alot of fun actually. It is really helping out with my understanding of how RC's work, run, and are put together. These past few days have taught me more than I have learned in a while. I think every noob should have to build their first RC. Goes a long way in explaining how these beasts work. I recomend building a kit to anyone, and I am only half way done! I wouldn't envy me too much! LOL after all my leg is still broken, and I am burning alot of leave, but at least I am spending it doing something fun, and not sitting around with my thumb you know where, playing switch every half hour! The time off is ok, I just can't wait until I can actually walk again. I hope to have this thing burning Nitro by the end of next week, if I can hobble around enough... we shall see. Take care my friend.

Yes this is the X1 CRT Pro Kit. It is looking very beefy. Looks like it is built to take a beating. I am using only the parts that have come in the kit. The only upgrade I have so far is a set of Dace 23mm hub adapters, that I am still waiting for UPS to deliver though. I am not sure how it will look next to a Hellfire... I have heard HPI has done there homework on that ride though.

Makers Mark is a really good Kentucky Bourbon.

Well here is where I think I will stop for the evening. My fingers are sore, and I need to rest my leg a bit. I have not bolted anything to the chassis yet. I just wanted to see how it all lined up. I do not have any grease for the gears yet, and I didn't want to bolt them to the chassis and seal up the diffs until I could put some grease on the gear. Bolting it to the chassis is the next step!

Should see what Untchbl is using...he's been racing his already and trying different setups......
What does Jammin recommend

What diff oil weights are you going to use?

Hey Revo.... I am running 5,10,3 According to the write-up in XRC that setup worked well for them on the more bumpy, and jump filled tracks. Which fits the local track I run just right, so I am going to give that setup a shot I may move to 7 in the front and 5 in the back but I will give this a shot first. Sorry for my absence yesterday, I got so into the truck that by the time I was finished it was to late to log on. Sorry about that.

I am not sure what Jammin' Jay says we should run. I will check that out and get back to you. I want to say Jammin recomends running 5,7,3 I am not positive though. I am curious as to what Untchbl is running though.

Tom

This is what I was able to finish yesterday. I didn't get started until a little later in the morning though. I had to find some diff grease before I could attach the front and rear ends to the chassis. Of course then I got into jawing with everyone while I was there. I mean, it is nice just to get out anymore these last couple of weeks! LOL Good thing the LHS is just about 10 miles away... safetly inside my ok driving distance.

I plan on belting and glueing up the tires today. There is not much else I can do until I get a mill. I just hope I don't ruin the clutch shoes while trying to get them on. I have never done that before.

Just take your time with the clutch shoes. They are actually alot tougher than they look but they can get scored and or break of Toooo much stress is put on them. I cracked a shoe the first time i rebuilt mine but havent since and I'm not very gentle.

Damn man, this is making me seriously reconsider how happy I was about the Hellfire. How much does the pro kit go for?

I guess the Pro Kit varies from Dealer to dealer. I have seen it has hi as $620 (Ofna's MSRP) and as low as $570. I got mine out the door for about $560. I bought a steering and throttle servos, reciever battery, and reciever all for just under $800. It is a bit pricey, but for a Pro kit and all the hopups you get right out of the box... it is well worth the scratch.

Well guys, I have gotten as far as I can without a mill. I must say all in all it was a very easy build. Although I have yet to install the clutch shoes! Well here are the lastest pictures of my progress. I still have to finish trimming the body, and of course paint it. Enjoy.. I know I did.

Real nice, Tom. Did the body come pre-cut?

How did you end up doing the holes in your wing. I just use a body reamer fro mine. Good tip because I doubt you are going to whip out a drill and a .28 bit at the track if you break a wing there!:whip:

Hey Revo,

All I did was take a small drill bit and made myself a starter hole, and did just like you said, I used my body reamer until I made the holes the perfect size. The body reamer worked great, like you said, I could have just used the reamer to start with. The body did not come precut, so I spent about a half hour cutting it out so that I could test fit it. I still have to take the dremel and smooth out the edges and make the holes for the mill and airflow. I just wanted to see what the body looked like on. I can't wait until I can get a mill in there and finish up all the linkages and fire this baby up! What fun this was. I wish I had another to build! LOL
