I was driving my t maxx and It tore a tooth about every half inch. Now it does mot move when you give it gas. I tightened iy a bit and it moved a little. Should I juft tighten the slipper and turn it bask 1/8th a turn? what does the top screw do? The one that sits the shift point, I think its hinda loose do I tighten it? How much do?
Thanks guys, Wayne:whhooo:

Tighten it all the way and loosen it off a quarter turn. I would get a new spur if I were you though.

If you are facimg the front of the maxx which way to tighten it. (I Forgot) :)

spur gear

I believe he is talking about the slipper adjustment. All the way in and then out like 1/4 turn or so. Depends on the motor. As for the shift point adjustment, clockwise causes a later shift. I would not run any spur with a missing tooth. When it does give out the backlash and or over revving could hurt the tranny and or clutches. For $3 get a new one. I would also recommend loosening the motor and realign the spur and pinion/clutchbell gears. This is the most important part in spur gear life.

Well the screw on the gear (facing the rear) is like any other screw. Righty tighty lefty lucy. It easy to figure out from there.

Thats what I thought. But, I tightened the slipper nut and it takes off now. But now it is time to change the spur.

spur

Good to hear. Those nylock nuts can only come off and on so many times the they need to be replaced as well or they can loosen up.

I have been looking around the site but can't find the answer I am looking for. Like I said before it pulls but only when I pull back on the rig some. I now also have a spur that spins left freeley but when I turn it right it catches and does not spin freeley. When it is running and I pull back on it and it catches it is eating teeth but that is the mesh.
Help guys,thanks

Well, it sounds like you fried a gear in the trans.

When you give it gas and it revs but doesn't move, do you see anything spinning beside the spur gear? Does the output shaft of the trans spin? If it does, then it's either your diffs, center axles missing the pin, outer axles missing a pin or wheel hex's spun.

I will get out to my maxx and see.

I went and looked. When I reved it the shafts turned from both ends.Andthe wheels turn when the spur catches. Whats up with?? The tranny needs to be taken apart... Hu??

Sounds like the tranny. Probably a stripped gear. My tranny free spins one way as well. When i turn it the other way the wheels spin. The tranny has a one way bearing for 1st gear and thet is why it free spins one way. If it didn't free spin the tranny would have load on acceleration and deceleration causing more stress and heat on the gears. The tranny isn't a big deal to work on. Just download a exploded view off the traxxas site so you can have it beside you for the first disassembly/reassembly. I was intimidated the first time but now I have done it a few times it is a breeze. I lost first gear two weeks ago at the no limit event and did a tranny job in the pits that took about 15 minutes. Just in time to compete in the big jump. LOL good luck, Tom

Thanks guys, I do not have classes tomorrow so I plan getting it torn apart when I put my kids down for a nap. I have a new two speed wide ratio gears if I need to replace the gears inside. The tranny does not need any kind of lube correct? Also All stock traxxas gears will fit a 2.5 or a 3.3 tranny, correct???
Thanks

spur question

The newer 3.3 grey transmissions have totally different gears than the old black ones. They are much tougher and have a different ratio. I run the wide ratio in mine as well. When mine breaks it is usually the smaller gear that comes with the set. I recommend changing both gears and blowing the dust out of the tranny as well. These trannys are not supposed to be lubed at all unless you have metal gears.

Thats what I thought about the lube. Do you like the wide gears? I have a S maxx converted to a 4x4 it has a 2.5 and the black tranny but the only good thing is it is right at a year old.

I went through it and cleaned it up good.I put on a new spur and spacer and it is fine now it seems.y the time I finished everything it was dark out, so I will see for sure tomorrow. I put on a in line filter (Durbo) and cleaned it up good while I was at it.Thanks for the help and hope it is all good now.

Check the Engine Mounts

Ok first thing first. Do you have a stripped spur gear? If your spur gear is stripped you may have hit the motor and stripped the engine mounts. I had this problem on two of my machines and had to learn the hard way. Get a GOOD (Bondhus) ball end hex and check the engine screws on the mound. I'm willing to bet one or two of the rear screws are stripped. If this is the case you can put spur gears on it until the cows come home and you'll strip them all. You may need a new engine mount. When and if you install a new one set the gear with a piece of paper between the spur and the bell and USE LOCTITE !!! This will stop it all from moving. Set your slipper then and all will be well.
