my engine wont start HELP!

Hi, I've bought another engine for my rc car.
i bought it off ebay and the listing stated that the engine 'started and ran fine as it should'.

I have tried many times to start the car. After many failed attempts I've given up for today. Does anyone have any ideas on why it wont start? The glow plug and the ignitor works fine. There is fuel in the pipe and going into the carb. It does sound like it wants to start.
I'm using a rotostart, does anyone think that the pull start is better as personally i dont think the rotostart is running fast enough to fire it up ( it does turn the engine over though).
Any suggestions?

Charge your batteries and try again. If you can't get it started with the roto, you won't get it with a recoil. Is the glow plug new? What battery is in the roto start? What kind of fuel are you using and is it new? What kind of car/truck/ engine is it? This is your second vague post. Nobody can see your house and equipment from here.

my batteries are new and the fuel is about 2 months old (does the fuel go 'flat' after a while?). the glow plug is fine - I've taken it out and put it in the ignitor even when i blow hard on it, it doesn't go out.

I have a GV Models REX-X, I'm using an OFNA FORCE .21 (just to start off with) planning to upgrade in the near future.

I'm not being 'vague' on purpose. i forgot to add the info in the first post as i was in a rush
and i thought i had put everything you needed in this post - i wanted to see what you came up with. no need to get worked up about it:\

Get some fresh fuel and a some new glow plugs. Not sure what your trying to accomplish by blowing on it. Make sure your using a quality ignitor, too. Fuel goes bad after some time. Depending on humidity, how much is left in the container, how tight the cap is on, ect...

i have tried using two different glow plugs. My container is nearly full. cap is on tight and it is in my garage around 16'C. I've heard that you can test how good the glow plug is by doing that. If the glow goes out then your plug isnt very strong but if it stays lit then it is strong. I'm using an ansmann racing 3000mah glow starter - cost me £12 is that any good?
How am i going to get this started?

Well, if all else fails, seal the engine and start at factory settings. If the engines broke in, start just a bit shy of factory settings. Check for dirt in the hsn. Basically, tear it apart, make sure everything is clean and start over.

Take off the air cleaner and put a small shot of fuel directly into the carb neck. Start it immediately. If it sputters to life and then stalls out, your carb is gummed or your needle settings are way off.

I think his settings are just off due to the season changing. Needs richened slightly.

how do i know where the factory settings are?
which one is the hsn? is it the screw right by the fuel pipe? or the bigger one on the side?

i would try putting it back to factory settings but i dont know where they are as i dont have a manual for the car.
do you know where the factory settings would be? is it the same for each car?

HSN is what the fuel line goes directly to. Factory setting for that is somewhere around 1.5 - 2 turns out from closed. Factory LSN setting is flush with the brass sleeve.

Hi, today i have put the HSN screw about 2.5 turns from closed. is this a good place.
my roto start is fully charged and is turning the engine over quickly. is there anything else i could do?? it does even sound like it wants to start
any other suggestions?

I've just been told by the previous owner that the engine does work but he had problems starting it. He resolved the problem by pushing the pump down to get the fuel through. What is the pump??? i didnt know that the car had any pump??

does anyone know what he means?

sounds like fuel is not getting to the carb. You need to prime the engine by either putting your finger over the exhaust tip without the glowplug ignitor on the enigne and spin the motor till fuel reaches the carb or by pushing the primer pump on the gas tank(if equipped) till fuel reaches the carb and then try to start it.

how can you tell if the fuel is going into the carb?
because when i prime it (by putting my finger over the exhaust tip and spinning the engine) i can see the fuel go through the pipe line up to the carb but dont know whether the fuel is actually getting to the carb?
could this be the reason its not starting??

Yeah, if no fuel is getting through the carb then it won't run. If the carb is gummed up or if needles are cloggged it won't run. Have you tried removing the airfilter and putting a little fuel in the opening of the carb? If it starts when you do that, then the carb is dirty.

i had this problem a couple times 2 diff problems one was at the hsn fuel inlet is like a banjo fitting i had a clog in there u can remove and check or try the old hold the carb open and blow thru...the other was a problem withe the cluth even thought the motor seems strong it wont run with a constant load if you have room split the gears and try or put it on a stand and it may kick

did u read the above post you may have a clog in carb after you force gas in and it stars psi keeps it running

and yes he may be using a primer factory on a mgt
