hey i have a xtm x-c and gray liquid, is spiting out of the cooling head, like almost as if the cooling head wasn't on tight enough, like its coming out were the cooling head, and the "block" meat... I'm not sure what this means, but it when i run it i have to keep it alive, "playing with the throtle" keeping it from stauling, i dunno what it is, and I'm worried... ((its the .18 xtm engine))
help-
thanks- :hammer:

yea, i was thinking about taking it apart, how do i go about rebuilding?, and this may make me sound like a newb. but what gasket?

thanks-

There isn't a gasket as such.
What there is, is a head shim that will dictate the amount of compression on a working engine. The shim is not designed to seal the head to the block. The shim if damaged may cause the head not to seal but again its function isn't to seal the head to the block.

Remove the head and check for a damaged shim.
Check the head and block for micro cracks.
Check the head and block sealing surfaces for warping.
Check the head and block sealing surfaces for pitting or foreign objects.

Assuming everything looks good, clean the mating surfaces well and place the head on the block including the shim (s) if any. Screw the head bolts in just until they touch.
In a star pattern tighten each one just a little bit until they are snug.

Do not over tighten them. They are designed to be only snug.
As the mill gets hot everything expands. If they are too tight they may crack or you may never get them out again.

ok cool thanks, ill check out all that stuff, yea i think i might have some type of small crack, thanks alot!!!

I'm not sure, but it might have somthing to do with the custom coper pipe i put on it, I'm not sure, i think I'm going to take it off and put the regular pipe on, and see what happens,

id check out that piston and sleeve somethings getting chewed up it sounds

I'd be willing to bet that your leak is coming from the exhaust flange to the cylinder block. The gray stuff is just the aluminum from the block mixing with the oil residue from the exhaust caused by the connection being loose. The reason you have to play with the throttle to keep it running is you don't have enough fuel pressure until the exhaust pressure comes up. I had a buddy that took his car to the LHS (HobbyTownUSA Rivergate Nashville, TN) for the same problem and they misdiagnosed it.

Parris, I'm sorry but the store you mentioned. Well lets just say my bladder was about to bust, I wouldnt releave myself there if the place was on fire. The ol guy that owns it isnt a bad guy, not business minded but an OK guy, as for the snot nosed brats thats pretty much take the place over thats what I can't deal with. They know it all and your just a dumb customer? I refuse to go there, I do hit Rivergate mall alot and its a shame that store sucks cause its so close to the mall. Bobby and his crew over in Franklin is a lot better group to deal with!
