I just got my son a Losi Muggy today and about 2 1/2 tanks of break in the clutch locked up. I removed the motor and disassembled the clutch and the bearing were fine, but the AL clutch shoes were almost destroyed. They were slipping so bad that they melted and some debris forom them lock up the clutch. For a $500 + truck this is not acceptable. I am sure for another $75 - $125 I could install a nice aftermarket truck, but this should not be necessary. I am dissappointed in the vehicle and will be contacting Horizon shortly. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. thnks

I'll let you know... A newbie friend of mine just got another guy he knows hooked. The newbie friend of mine bought a LST2 as his first. His friend bought a muggy. They started break-in with the muggy yesterday and I'm supposed to hook up with them this weekend and help them out.

I'll let you know if we run into a similar problem. Sucks to hear about it though. Losi is such a good company.

My LHS is hooking me up with the Dynamite shoes for free. So I also need the clutchbell as well?

The 12T bell will drop your gear ratio a little bit which will also help. It will lower top speed, but unless you have one heck of an engine already, your not hitting top RPM's ever. So, gearing down a bit will allow you to use more of your engines RPM range.

You could run with the bell you have, but you run the risk of burning up your new shoes just as you did your old ones.

This is the bell I believe he's talking about:

I think this one would work as well:

Different brand, but looks identical. I ran that one in my HB Lightning buggy when I attempted to put MT tires on. It worked fine with a hardened spur. The nice thing is that it uses normal 5x10 bearings like other bells. You will find that a lot of 12T bells use a smaller 5x8 bearing or a collared bearing that wears out much faster.

I have been in contact with Horizon and they told me to send them a list of what I needed.

12t clutchbell
Dynamite Max life shoes

They said no problem. It was frustrating to spend that kind of money and have a major problem, but I can't complain with customer service like that.

I just ran with a guy last weekend who bought a muggy. I kept this thread in mind and took a spare 12T bell with me for him. He's completely new to the hobby. I was surprised how quick it is off the line with stock gearing. We ran 2 or 3 tanks through it to finish his break-in and then he ran another 8 tanks or so through it just bashing. It seemed to hold up fine with the stock gearing and clutch.
