Does this motor use a standard or turbo plug? The description on Mugen's website, says this uses a standard plug, but it has a turbo head? Doesn't make sense to me. And when I looked at the plug that was given to me by the previous owner, it looks like a standard plug....

http://www.mugenracing.com/X12.htm

Any recommendations on what plug I should use?

Oh, and I was able to start the car today...this baby shifts HARD into second. I lifted the car off the ground, and did a really short WOT, and the car lifted up when it shifted into second. Plus the car SCREAMED! This engine rocks. I can't wait to try it out at the track soon.

there were 2 versions of the mugen x12, standard and turbo. i currently use the standard plug version, but i have a turbo button that will be installed later this season. i run my mugen x12 with an OS A3 plug

Well, what percentage nitro are you using? When I ran my X12, I used an OSA3, just as sl0eg1n did and ran 20% byrons.

Right now I'm using 20% trinity, but what I have heard from others, this engine is made for 30%, so I'll probably use that instead. So if the engine came with a standard plug, I have to use a standard plug?

The plug thats on the car, is made by Novarossi, and it has a number 6 etched on.

Nitrohouse has the Turbo plug version, the OLD X-12's used std. plugs, the new shipment of X-12's are coming with turbo heads.

I got it for $289, I use a Novarossi TOP T6TC med plug with 30% nitro.

I would use 30% Byrons or Mugen Seiki fuel (Same as Byrons) with this engine.

The Turbo version gives you +.2 HP.

No shimming is needed with 30%, just use the plug I mentioned (T6TC Turbo)

Make sure your car isn't shifting to early, if you come from a weaker engine, then install a more powerfull engine, the shift point will be earlier.

Get around 50ft from first gear.

Yup, turbo's and standard plugs are not interchangeable. Standards have a copper washer, turbo's don't have a washer. Instead it has a conical aper at the end.

You shouldn't have a problem with that engine. If it was a modded X12, there can be problems (turbo version). Turbos can be picky with tune and plugs. It's even worse with a modded engine.

Sloeg1n and I are having slight problems (him more than me). Great tune in the morning but come afternoon when the humidity picks up, it runs like crap. Even with retuning. The engines (Jim Hottinger Modded Novarossi's new LL3 and Max12S3MF Massimo Fantini tuned) are asking for slightly hotter plugs because of the airs moisture content. It's driving him insane. His is more pronounced than mine.

Just make sure you listen to the engine as well as watch it during various points in the rpm band. This will be a part of tuning that will be as critical as keeping temps within acceptable ranges. Tune for performance, double check with temps. All engine's perform differently. But my X12 (after tuning for performance) will turn out to like the 235-245ish range.

No air leak. It's atmospheric conditions. I know the symptoms of an air leak and there are none.

Holds a tune but the tune is different from morning to afternoon. Doesn't help that we are 692 ft above sealevel.

i know there is no airleak because i noticed that the engine was misfiring. the air was humid and i had the wrong plug causing a misfire. in order to get the moisture out of the engine, i needed a hotter plug. instead of using a novarossi 6tgf, i should've been using a 6tgc or 7tgc.

Following is a selection chart for Novarossi Turbo Glow Plugs. Use this as a cheat sheet.

Type Thermal Range Nitro% Temp.C° Humidity%
C5TGC Hot/hot wire 10-20 0-10 70-100
C6TGC Hot/average wire 10-20 10-16 70-100
C7TGC Hot/cold wire 20-30 16-25 70-100
C8TGC Hot/ultra cold wire 20-30 25-up 70-100
C5TGF Cold/hot wire 20-30 0-10 40-70
C6TGF Cold/average wire 20-30 10-15 40-70
C7TGF Cold/cold wire 20-up 16-25 40-70
C8TGF Cold/ultra cold wire 20-up 25-up 40-70

Thanks for the replies guys. You should check out murnanmodified.com

I heard this guy Uriah mods engines for Barry Baker and it consistently wins or places in the top 3.

I've seen a Murnan X12 run. Adlawoo, here onthe board, uses one. He has a bitch of a time getting above a 5 minute run. I always have to drop him and top him off just as they start counting off the cars to go.

Sl0eg1n uses a Novarossi LL3 Jim Hottinger Mod and I use a Max12S3MF Massimo Fantini Tuned (aka Modded) engine. All three have their purpose for different tracks and layouts but they're all sick on ponies!

We had an engine modded by Uriah. It ran great but I was not really impressed with it..

What was your take on his mod? How was fuel consumption? WHere was the power concentrated?

The sleeve work was awesome.Fuel consumption was about the same. The lowend power to me seamed less than stock..But I really didn't run it enough the see how much topend power it had because I traded it..But I ported a RBX12 and it has just as much power as his ported engine had and topend is insane..Diver do you have engines for sale?I need one for my NTC3

I have engines but none for sale. I use what engine fits according to track layout. Sorry. My LHS has a couple of Jim Hottinger Modded Novarossi LL3's and Modded Max 12S3mf's. Both are very good engines that are in our (sl0eg1n and myself) stable. Very good performing engines. A few notches above stock with great low end and overall speed. LMK if you would like one or if there are other engines you would like. I will check prices for you and give you a contact at the LHS. Both engine's that I mentioned are about $330 (off the top of my head).

i have yet to see which one is faster amongst the 2 engines mentioned above. i have been experiencing tuning issues with the jim hots engine due to using wrong glowplugs. i heard that this is one of the snappiest motors on the market. jim hottinger modifies motors to achieve both power and better fuel consumption. hopefully this weekend i will be able to see its full potential. as far as the max motor, it's really got some ponies.

Yeah, it's a true long stroke but without the fuel consumption isues (supposedly). Come one sl0eg1n ... get that puppy running right. We need to get her on the track and put these 2 cars/engines head to head!
