I picked up a used Mugen MBX4 and I am wondering what if anything can be upgraded to the new MBX5 parts? This is my first 1/8 buggy. I removed the diffs this weekend to check them out and they are leaking really bad(no fluid), how much fluid is suppose to be in the diffs? I looked all over the net for some "how to" on diff rebuilding but couldnt find nothing, anyone have some info on where I can find some good articles to learn from?

Most likely no. The MBX5 is a complete from-the-ground-up redesign. The MBX4 is still a good little buggy in its' own right. With the right driver, it's still very competitive.

Thanks for the info! I will probably run this until I get some (alot) of laps under my belt and then get a MBX5. I ran it friday eve. indoors and it handled real well I just need to get some track time and learn the ins and outs of the 1/8 scale buggies.I have to say this site has a vast amount of information, thanks again for the help! :bowtothercnt:

Just enough diff fluid to cover the gears. I think its about 80 85% full. Just take the diffs apart replace all the orings and gaskets check the bearings for smooth operation clean all the parts rebuild and add diff oil and when you tighten the 4 screws do it equally in a X style pattern to set the gear nice and flat.

The 5R is the newest version. You're going to have to do a lot of searching for parts for the 4. And don't worry the MBX6 will be out late 2008 early 2009 after the 2008 Worlds.

Offhand, some slight suspension changes, more droop, and a slightly different chassis plate. I'm sure there are more subtle changes....
