I put 2

5x8x0.5 shims in the rear diff tonight. I put it all back together and now the center spur gear off the clutch is making a bunch of noise when rolled. Also when braking it makes a louder grinding noise.

I spin the rear wheels only and it won't spin the front diff either. This is a brand new truck and never has been run. It seems to roll fine just makes some noise.

Is this normal or did I put too many in? I had 3 in there and 2 seemed to make it smoother.

Any ideas what to do? From what I've read I"m guessing thats too many shims in there to operate smoothly.

I over shimmed mine a bit too much, but it will eventually wear to it. Just don't take it apart until something goes wrong. That's what I did and havent had a problem.

If you don't feel comfortable with that, take it apart and play with it a bit. Remember it's a hobby, not something that you rush to put together.

I know i'm not rushing we just had 8" of snow yesterday.

I won't be breaking in my motor for atleast a couple weeks. I was just unsure whether or not that will cause a problem.
