Hey fellas. I am looking at buying one and need some feedback from people I can trust. What MP3 players are good out there? I am looking the Apple ones and a few new name ones. I need the Pros and Cons on them.

Thanks peeps

Jon

What are you looking to do with it, if you are going to be walking/jogging with it or bouncing around a lot I suggest getting one with flash memory such as the ipod shuffle, I myself am looking for one and a few people mentioned the bigger ones that use hard drives can tend to have issues if they are bounced around too much.

At this point I am leaning tword(sp?) the shuffle 512mb, I was waiting for the mobiblu cube for a while but it is getting horrible reviews from a few places I have read about it.

It will be more for listening at work/relaxing and also working out with. Good point on the Hard Drive issue.

Creative Zen micro is a good one.

The new Ipod nano may be for you too, it uses a flash drive, best battery life, 4 gigs, color screen.

I bounce the crap out of my iPod 40 gig. I'm sure I will have an issue with it sooner or later but not as of yet. 40 gigs IMO is overkill. I have 900 songs now and have used somewhere around 3 gigs?

I like the iPod due to its popularity and the after market accessories. Cases are a dime a dozen in any color you want. I have a speaker that sits on my desk that it drops into and plays while its charging. I also have a little unit that plugs into the top and transmits FM so I can listen to it in my car. I get 8 full hours of play from one charge.

The shuffle is gaining in popularity as well I see a lot of accessories for it.

BTW
Sound quality is GREAT!

I had a few of the early creative labs and the first Ipod.....if you do ANY activity w/ those they skipped, stopped whatever......I use mine when I ran (used ot run) or cycling (again used to).....I finally ended up going w/ a sony MD since they were cheap and ran for 50 hrs on 1 aa battery......it's not a bad system for active stuff but the discs only hold about 50-80 songs (mp3 or the sony format) recorded at mid grade quallity....I was running out of juice w/ th eother ones w/ hardrives while I was on my bike....I hate riding and carrying stuff that doesn't work....just be sure to really look at all the features and the transfer software demo would be nice since I've had a few that just plain sucked.....hard to figure out and very little help from creative labs.....

I really like the IPODs and the Nano just calls me! what is the max storage on the Nano?

they have a Black and White one. and they are 2gig or 4gig. 4 gig is around 1000 4min songs. I think not 100% sure

The ipod series are cool, accessories are plentiful but can be expensive. I have a 15gb 3rd generation ipod and have had few issues with it, mainly an occasional lock-up of the hard drive or freezing of the OS. I'm sure the newer generation pods have been more reliable.

I have a friend with the Creative Zen and he swears by it, no issues at all but it is bulkier than the mini ipods.

# of songs will depend on what bitrate the song was converted to MP3 at. I doubt you'll be doing critical listening with an mp3 player, I'd use at least 128 kbs for decent sound quality. The higher the bitrate the better the sound quality, but at the expense of less songs stored.

Dang that is my next "WTB" things to tell my wife. LOL Any experieince from MP$ portables? Not really sure but they are priced close. They just play vids with audio.

yea I am looking at getting a ipod also but is $300 worth it? Sometimes I think it is other times I dont.

iPod Nano is the bomb. With 4gig store up to 1000 songs! It is in my wish list now.

Here some saving for you.

4 gig flash drive, a little less than the 6 gig mini harddrive unit.

For what it's worth I have the Dell jukebox. I'm anti-Apple so an ipuq never came to mind in my decision. What really turns me off with the ipuq is the proprietary format and not being able to use the songs on something else. I use my Dell during workouts and the only time it skips is when I drop it. I use it on the treadmill and EFX also with free weights and machine.

never had a problem with the Irivers. they are nice in the way they organize songs. you can set up folders like you would in Windows Exploder. The RIo's are pretty good, but not as flexible as the Irivers in the format. Honestly, never looked into Sony or Apple due to the song format and the licensing rules and crap.

Like Jet I have the Dell and no complaints what so ever (I've had it probably about a year now). It's taken a serious beating from being dropped and such and still works without any problems. I also like the fact that you can get software from Dell that will let you use it as a mass storage device as well as an MP3 player. It makes working away from home much easier.

You can do the same with the ipod

hey, i have a "Rio Karma" which i bought brom best buy, it has 20 gigs, so approx. 10,000 songs. If u cut grass with it on u or something, it may locked up or skip some, but chillin' in the office or anything like that it will be great for, has a cool docking station with a blue neon "underglow" type thing that can pulsate to the music. i think its like 250-300, warratny also comes with it, 90 day

i have a ipod mini(4 gig) and have not had a problem with mine i have droped one or 2 times and it still works fine...

eddy can you tell me how to use the ipod as a storage device?

I just got the ipod Nano from my wife for our 2nd anniversary. It still has all the functionality of the older ipods but much smaller. No worries about skipping with this unit since it uses a flash type memory. Buttons are easy to use and the scroll wheel makes finding songs very fast. PLUS you can view photos on it which is very cool. If you have larger hands the buttons can be harder to use initially (I'm used to using the full size ipods) but after a few minutes I was able to scroll through menus and chage settings without making an input error. Overall I'm very impressed with what apple has managed to pack into such a small and lightweight package. This would make an excellent mp3 player for jogging or working out due to its size and weight.
