RC Driving Style
What effect would moving the air cleaner to the front of my ultra mbx have on the motor? Was thinking about using some simple tubing to move it up front away from the dirt kicked up by the tires.
 
I doubt it would have any real effect. If it's like my maxx or my savage, with the air cleaner right in front of the engine head, it may help drop your temps some. I know extending mine a little, just enough to lay the filter down out of the heads air flow, it dropped my temps about 10-15 degrees on average.

Just make sure you don't use to small of a line and stretch it over the fitting on the carb and filter. You need to find a hose that is big enough or small enough to get the same air flow.
 
Hadn't thought of the cooling effect. The search is on for the right size tubing.
 
I didn't move mine far. I just extended the tube about an inch so I could lay the filter down and out of the direct line of the head.

Nice truck! But I want to move mine up by the front bumper, even with the big prefilter it clogs way too fast.
 
It should be fine, just make sure to get a good sized tubing.

There's a gimmick that moving the filter to the front will increase hp due to the fact that the engine is breathing cooler air... I don't think the theory is worth it's weight in s***, but who knows. I moved mine more so that it doesn't block air flow and so I could put a good mount on the top of the filter so as not to loose it.
 
I may need a new body if I'm going to do it this way.

Yeah, unfortunately, you'll never get a buggy lid on there with that setup...
There's not much room for change under a buggy lid.
 
I'm thinking that right front tire's gunna throw dirt up under the body right at the filter but we'll see.
 
Anybody ever put a truck body on their buggy? What parts did ya need?
 
even after i moved my airfilter forward, it still gets dirty. no matter what. here is my air filter as it is now.

as far as putting a MT body on a buggy, u would need body mounts from a MT and modify them to fit.

Mines quite a bit further forward. Why do they put such small filters on off road cars? Mines as big as I've seen course most of the size is the pre-filter which really helped.
 
what kind of air filter are u running, i would like to get one. looks like there is a lot of area for the engine to breath. cuz my engine needs more air, thats only a 1/10th scale air filter, a Motorsaver.

You can cobble pretty much any 21 sized off road filter to work on a smaller engine. I'm running OS's 21 filter on my orion 18 maxx. It breathes much better than the little one I had and it takes longer to get dirty.
 
the engine I'm running is a HB .25 so i need a big air filter for it and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

get a 1/8 scale motor saver air filter, i run em on my savage, MGT and Pcr Pro, improves airflow and increases engine protection + it will cut down the amount of times u will need to clean em
 
Personally I think mines better it's just an 1/8 scale ofna with the prefilter which actually seems to get about 90% of the dirt before it even gets to the oil filter.
 
Mines just a standard ofna with a prefilter over the top works great.
