well, i just bought a new motor from savage fan, and this motor is definatly better than the stock rc18 motor. i want to maintain this motor better than i did the last one. I've searched and i can't really find any general maintinence tips for motors. so if you guys might just give me some tips on what to do. oiling, cleaning, whatever. I'm clueless.

thanks

ok a few to start.

when your done running, roll the flywheel around so you put the piston a BDC (bottom Dead Center) to cool down. this allows things to cool in the motor with out binding.

some people swear by useing ARO (after run oil) after every time they are done running the motor. i say it dont hurt, but i typically only use it when i know the motor will be setting and not running for 5 days or more. if i run the motor ever few days, i wont use ARO until i know it will just be setting.

CLEAN THAT AIRFILTER and its entire assembly. Keeping the filter and assembly clean will help keep the poop out of the motor that dont belong, ie, sand, dirt, crusteez.

properly oil the air filter, and greese the ends so you get a good seal between the filter and the filter housing. this will keep the air going Thru the airfilter, not around it.

I think he's referring to an electric motor, not a nitro "motor" since he referred to an RC18.

I don't really know much about electric maintenance either, even though I have quite a few lectros. I just try to watch my can temperature. Recent experience has taught me what overheating can do to an electric motor. What motor did you get?

its an epic motor. yes electric. and I'm not sure which model of epic. its brush, thats about all i know..it didnt come with any info from savage fan

You need to blow it out after running since dust can get inside the can of most brushed motors. Use a good grade of light machine oil on the bushings, and occasionally take out the brushes and inspect them.
I can't think of what it's called, but there's a dropper or spray that goes on the commutator that lubes it as well as increases the electrical conductivity, noticeably raising the RPMs.
