Motor/speed control combos for 2wd slash

Can someone please recommend some brushless combos for a 2wd slash?
I seen some on hobby king but I don't know what to get. I will be buying 2 so try to keep it around $50-60. These will be for my boys who race their slashes in the kids class.

Here's one that roughly compares to the VXL-3s at Hobby King:

This is close to the Traxxas VXL motor for the 1/10 scale stadium trucks (it's 3900 kV vs the Traxxas 3500 kV):

What about connectors? I will have to clip the traxxas connectors off the batteries I have now, so is Dean's the way to go?

Either Dean's or Traxxas connectors will work. You should be able to order either from either Amain.com or Tower Hobby. The Traxxas connectors might be easier to solder on the ESC and save you some work in the long run.

I wouldn't change from Traxxas plugs to deans plugs, IMO Traxxas plugs are just as good and they are easier to use.

I started running a VXL in a 2wd Slash today and that thing is a load of fun on 2s and a handful on 3s! Your going to need a good set of tires and some suspension tuning!
