I've had this mossberg 500 home defender series shotgun for awhile now. I had the rear pistol grip on it, and a sling but that is about it.

I have been doing some research, and i thought i could not change the forearm on it. so i was just going to get a tri rail, light, and laser dot and be done with it.

I took it, and an old mossberg 835 with me to the arms room gun shop, just to see what they would do for me.

The guy showed me that i could in fact remove the forearm, and then offered to trade me $150 worth of merchandise for the 835. I am totally OK with that, seeing as it hasnt been used in over 13 years, and i dont see me using it any time soon.

I walked out with an ATI tactical kit, barrel shroud, side saddle, and front clamp on vertical grip for about $16.

So, since i know you guys love pictures here you go.

I still need to get a light and laser dot, but I'm liking the progress so far!

Hell ya! Looks great Blake. I want a 500 a bunch...

You can go real cheap on a light and still look good imo.

Check mine out, works great, is led and cost $2 lol.

i now have 3 picatinny rails i can use, so i would like to get something to go on that.

I have the JIC Mossberg 500 package. I am very jealous as this is want I want to do with mine! Can you give me part names or numbers so I know what to get for mine?

the first thing you need to do is verify you can in fact change the forearm. On the 500a after 2006 the forearm is molded to the action tube and you cannot remove it. You have to purchase a new (old style) action tube and rails. I thought i had this problem but after the gunsmith looked at it he showed me the castle nut on it that would allow me to remove it.

here are some pics of the castle nut.

if you do have the castle nut you can go ahead with the upgrades i did. If not, you cannot replace the forearm unless you purchase a new tube and rails. You have other options though like clamp on picatinny rails.

here is what i "purchased" for the gun.

6 position tactical folding stock and forearm with picatinny rails.

5 round shell holder for stock.

this is not the vertical grip i got, but its similar. I like this one better

barrel shroud

I would suggest maybe not getting the shroud. it doesn't fit all that great, and takes some cutting on the forearm to get it to work right. It can be done, but it takes some work. just a heads up.:\

I dig it!

Nice work so far.

I have a 500a but its not as cool as your guys' its just normal haha. Came with a slug barrel and handles up to a 3" magnum shell. I really like it. Won a couple of skeet contests with it.

added a light to it. solid aluminum, with remote button, and rechargeable battery.

I'm really torn about dressing up a home defense shotgun, I can see the practical reasons not to but also the fun reason TO dress them up... and that light looks good and I can't believe how cheap it is.

Is that just a standard AA rechargeable battery?

yea, i posted a few times on a gun forum and got my hand slapped for dressing up the shotgun. oh well, its my gun, and i like the way it looks. I seriously doubt i will be fighting zombies any time soon, and the area i live in, an "intruder" would crap his pants when he hears the action from the other room

Its a 2700mah 3.4v or something, i would have to look again. its bigger then AA though. I can get pics of the battery if your interested. I think its 3 small batteries packaged together to get the 3.4v

Check out shotgunworld.com - they have a large thread of dressed up guns. Most all of them look pretty cool.

Is that a Dyson I see?

that is where i posted. in the "basement" (tactical shotgun section). they are all about practical and K.I.S.S. short barrel, and maybe a $300 light. nothing else... what is the fun in that?!?!

Great score on the Dyson!

I have been using a DC17 for a few year now. Best vacuum I have ever used.

That's kinda funny considering their "Post your tactical/HD gun" thread is full of dressed up guns. Though some of those custom modified mini shotguns do look pretty damn sick.
