Monster truggy?

If you want to make money off of it, then you got into the wrong hobby. In all my RCs, nitro or electric, I have at least $3,000 invested. If I tried to sell all of it right now, I'd be lucky to pull in $1500.

When you replace parts, as stated above, stay away from aluminum in any spot that will flex or take impact. A-arms you can upgrade with RPM parts, anything else depends on what's available. Most RTR parts are crappy soft plastic, but new replacement parts form the same brand will be a better plastic. The manufacturer wants you to buy parts, that's how they make their money.

I'm not looking to make money off of it. Like I said I have around 950$ total and was looking for 600. The only reason I was thinking of selling was that I wanted to get into brushless. But I'll either just keep it as is or convert it.

RC sales are more what the market will bear rather than what something is worth. it's not what you have in an RC , it's what will someone pay you for it ! and in today's economy what people will pay vs what it's worth are two very different things ! IMHO !

Thanks sir (=

Ill try and get a vid this weekend if I can get it up and tuned in. Will keep this thread rolling with pics and vids of future upgrades. Going down in the morning to pick up a savage 25 with a blown dif. Not going to sink nearly as much cash into it as the trophy, mostly just buying the savi to beat the hell out of it.

The reason I went truggy over monster trucks is because.....originally when I got the truck I wasn't plan on mud bogging. It was cheaper for me to go this route than buy another truck. Plus, it;s unique and looks cool.

Not to mention this truck will go places that my friends tmaxx's just wont. It doesn't get hung nearly as much because of the flat chassis, and it doesn't flip as much when crawling.

Everybody has a Tmaxx or a Savage, not many people have an Hpi Monster truggy lol.

Good enough for me. I'm all about doing it your way

Wow that thing is just a beast would love to get one of those I think you just made me deside what car I want next lol looks awsome

Glad you guys like it. The guys I run with saw it today for the first time and were amazed. Few updates here:

Power with the Big Joes is no problem. The car is still screaming fast.

It does handle like a cow, but has no problem turning the wheels. They just don't grab well in wet freshly mowed grass.

These things are AMAZING for climbing.

Still having engine problems out of the 454. When I start it, There's plenty of blue smoke and balls out torque. However after about 1 pass the blue smoke disappears and there is a huge huge throttle lag. Checked for fuel pressure leak, and all tests good. Clipped the ends of my fuel hoses to ensure a tight seal, no good. Did pinch test for low needle, all fine. Now I'm thinking it might be a clutch issue. The clutch and spring in that car (Stock 2 piece plastic shoe clutch set) is a POS and kind of rigged up. I'm thinking after it heats up it's just grabbing full force and bogging the motor. If that's the issue....then Problem solved! The Buku 3 shoe aluminum with composite pads arrived today. New adjust on the fly fly wheel, and 15 tooth steel HPI bell. Got everything here and ready to install. Really hoping it wakes the truck up, because I know the potential power this truck could have with the fresh 454.

Engines tend to run rich when they're cold. So if yours is running good cold, you either have an air leak or a false tune(lean hsn, compensated by a rich lsn setting). The clutch would't grab so hard as to cause a problem. A bad clutch either slips(worn/glazed) or doesn't disengage at idle(broken spring). I'd seal it up while it's out of the truck.

Well, I thought that at first but I'm not so sure now. On the tuning instructions for my new clutch it says this:

Motor Bog. This is a somewhat easy condition to diagnose. It occurs because the clutch is engaging too early and drawing too much power from the motor. You will see the RPM rise slowly and inconsistently and the car may stumble upon acceleration.

I think this is what is happening. Its is bogging the motor down. And I noticed the blue smoke stops when this is happening. I believe this is because the fuel is exhaust pressurized. I'm opening the carb and letting more air into the engine, but because the motor is bogged down it's not picking up exhaust pressure, therefore it's leaning the engine and the smoke trail stops. When the engine finally does catch back up the power comes back along with the smoke trail. I'm not sure how plausible this is, but it makes perfect sense.

Just to throw my .02 in here, I drive with this dude all the time, and that truggy is one hell of a beast. wish I had the cash to spend on one, I definitely would.. for now I'll stick with my redcat haha.

Update. All of my issues were the clutch. My theory was correct, got the Buku on there and the truck runs like brand new. Ran 4 tanks threw it, never died never a glitch. This 454 is really starting to wake up. I'm still running way rich though. Can't quite give it full throttle right now or it kills the power. Little over half way on the throttle and it moves great.

Lol video time. I have no idea what happened to the sound on this one. Really still needs tuned better and I need to tune the clutch.
