I’m having acceleration and spur gear destruction problems with my monster slash 4x4 vxl. I’m running 2.8 stampede tires and a 12 tooth pinion. I’m thinking about going to a 10 tooth. Is that a good idea? Would it help me not destroy my spur gear when I accelerate hard from a stand still?

Also side note: the stampede tires have insane grip definitely better than any tire I’ve ran previously.

Adjust your slipper clutch and you won't tear out the Spur Gears as bad. You could also look into getting hardened steel spur gear and pinion. Regardless you will still have to set your slipper clutch so it doesn't tear things up

The thing is the pinion could be off just a very little.. seen gears not really be cut as exact as you might think they should be.. Id even try a metal spur I've used the robinson 1s with very good results..you have outside the norm mods going .. so wear n tear are going to be higher.we love o mod things but then we find opps things are breaking and wearing.. so easy some things to gain life.

Are you running the correct pitch pinion? It uses a mod .8/32P. I never had many issues with my stampede with the spurs going out. Could also be your spur/center shaft bearing is kaput. I put a king headz mount in mine that runs a larger bearing as the original plastic mount had a smaller bearing in it that liked to die pretty quickly.

I'm running 1/8th electronics in my stampede now with trencher 2.8's, MIP CVD's, 2200kv 4074 motor/BLX185 esc on 3S with 19/54 gearing. The spur is still plastic, but I do have a center diff in it with 200K and a FLM cup. It's rare that I cook a spur gear. Usually when I land so hard that the motor moves, or a rock gets in there are the only times the spur dies.
