w00t!

I've decided to give buggies a skip this season and my trusty Ofna Blazer Truggy doesn't stand a chance against the newer stuff on the track.

So, enter the X1 CRT bought and paid for NIB. I collect it on Friday! This is my new contender for the 2006 truggie class.

I have an LRP Z.28 Spec2 sub 4BHP engine awaiting as well as a decent compliment of electronics (Servos/RX/Failsafe) ex my TTR buggy which is going into the "EBay retirment home"
I was just wondering what diff oils CRT owners are using. It would be great to get a heads up on what Members have used int the diffs before I build the beast.

Oh, in the UK it's sold as the Hong Nor X1 CRT and is exactly the same as the Ofna Jammin' except it doesn't come with tires.

I highly recomend 7k-30k-3k, front center rear for your diffs. I used Mugen oils.

Buy yourself some kyosho shock boots or the shock boots for the standard jammin shocks. Don't bother with the scrapers that the big bores come with. And enjoy. The truck is very capable right out of the box.

Also if you are going to use the stock ofna clutches, you will need to open up the hole in the shoes a bit so they will not bind on the flywheel pins when dust collects in there.

Just ask if you have anymore questions.

Brandon

Congratulations Mondo! The CRT will not disappoint. I have not had a chance to drive mine yet, but I have read alot about the truck and read several tests in various RC mags and all of them just Rave about the truck. Brandon is the only member here that I know of who has driven the truck firsthand and he is a weath of knowledege. His advice has been right on and he is more that willing to help, as he has helped me. In fact I just got some shock boots from the LHS yesterday that I plan on installing so I can get rid of the shock scrapers that come on the truck I just bought a set of Ofna boots that come on the X1 CR buggy. Also one other note.. you may want to seal your carbon fiber on the edges with some thin CA and a qtip. Will help keep your carbon from freying and splintering into your hand. Also before you start you build make sure that you have diff grease. You need that and they don't include any in the kit. Brandon has a great review under the truggy forum. If you get a chance it is great reading. I have also posted pics of my build under the members project forum. Good luck my friend and let us know how the build goes. The truck builds very fast and very easy.

Oh... I set my diffs up with 5K, 10K, and 3K. That is what most of the truggy users at my track have been running as well as what XRC magazine ran in ther test truck. I figured I would give it a shot. It varies depending on your track. I am also running 55 weight shock oil in my front shocks and 45 in the rear.

Take care.

Tom

Thanks guys,

I read untchbl 's review and that was a major factor in my choice - I actually collect it tongiht

One of the (sponsored) guys who I race with in the UK dumpred his TTR EB4-S3 buggy for the X1-CR buggy and was amazed at it's potential out of the box.

I decided to focus on truggies in 2006 as something new, I have a Blazer ST, but the CRT is in a league of its own and I can't wait to start the build

Thanks for the info on the diff oils, that's food for thought

One final question: What mills (engines) you guys running in the CRTs?

Right now I have been useing an RB s5.

This comeing season I'm planning to either try the RB 928 or the novarossi 528xr.

Haven't decided yet.

Hope you get to like the CRT. Can I ask what tyres you plan on running? Presumably you will be running on the same tracks as the buggies? Our tracks in the UK tend to favour long spike patterns like Angle Spikes and Turbo Rats. Nearest thing to this in a MAXX size tyre seem to be Panther Meat Grinders or Pro-line Maxx Mulchers. There doesn't seem to be anything useful in a 40 series tyre.

Crt

Well, I collected it. I have all I need to start building, as in electronics, engine, RX packs, transponder etc..
I have a choice of engines, either the LTP Z.28 Spec2 or an RB 7II .21 so I am still deciding. Got both engines in the pit box, the S7 II is used and the LRP Z.28 is brand new

I am based in the UK (need to update my Location field) and I have raced both buggies and truggies here
My local track is Swindon, I've done many buggy laps there and did one truggy race with my Ofna Blazer ST. I have a few tire types already due to owning the Blazer. The CRT lends its wheels and tires from the Onfa (Hong Nor) Blazer
Other great wheel/tire combos are Nubz from ProLine, originally designed for the Savage, they work well too

I'll keep you guys informed of my progress as I'll start building it next weekend.

Thanks a million for the input guys :¬)

Tried and tested

The CRT is built and had its first run over the weekend.
It was a short run just to see how it performed with an RB S7-II .21 engine.. and it did not dissapoint. The test run was in a parking lot - just to get the TX and servos sorted out.
I'll take it for a good rip on some grass to see how the .21 performs.

One thing my buddies commented on was how light the X1-CRT is. It's lighter than most RTR Buggies.
The amount of steering it has is also amazing and the brakes are wicked!

Some snapshots.. excuse the paintwork, I can build, tune engines, repair, scratch make special parts, solder, repair most electronic parts to component level, but my weaknesses include cutting shells, masking, painting and applying decals.

Specs:

  • RB S7-II engine (under review - I may change)
  • Sanwa ERG-VB Steering Servo
  • Futaba S3305 Throttle/Brake Servo
  • Futaba R114F 40MHz FM RX
  • URC Xtreme 6.0V RX Packs
  • 10K F, 30K C and 7K R diff oils
  • 50WT shock oil all round

New Engine

I took the plunge and debbled a wad of cash into an RB 928 7-Port engine.
Man I can't wait to run it with this beast, I opted for an RB as I am very impressed with my RB S7-II engine I run in my buggy

As you can see I am not using the Jammin' air filter, I found it too flexible for my liking, so an RD Logics filter has been fitted and a 14T vented clutchbell and standard kit clutch shoes/springs are fitted.
As you can see, I am running an old exhaust pipe, but I do plan on getting a new one before running it

Here's some photos:

A fairly long run of fuel line has been fitted to help prevent cut outs whjen the truggy is inverted.

I'll let you guys know how the RB holds up :¬)

In use..

Here's the CRT with RB TM928 engine and Vantage dual chamber CF pipe

Here's a photo or two of the Jammin' X1-CRT being put to good use..

Splat!

That is a paint effect. The combination of boredom crossed with creativity with a splash of darkness
Admitedly the CRT is an absoloute flyer. I love it..
