anyone here have experience with modded engines such as Roem, Rody, Collari, Salvin, JP, ect.....

Curious as to whether the power diff is that great over a stock engine. the prices will kill ya!

ill pay the extra money if the price is worth it. any help would be appreciated.

No personal experience but I've seen one of the Collari .12 and some of the bb RB's Rody modded's run and all were flat out kicking rear end. My pefference would be one of the RB's only because of the availability of parts in this area. I did have to return my Collari 21 because all parts were special order.

The Rody's are bad boys. I'm not so flush in the rc budget area at the moment (so my wife says) or I'd like to try the Rody modded offroad vesion of the c5:drool:

stretch - I'm by no means wealthy either. I've been saving for almost a month now for this engine. I'm going into touring car withdrawl

My accountant, I mean my wife just showed me how much I've spent this year on a few things including rc....................

what are you putting the v12 in?

its going in my new reflex. here is a pic

NA-
That should be quite a jump from the O.S. mill you were running in your NTC3.

u aint kidding. i wanted to do this one right. that is why it has been taking so long.

So I guess it is welcome to the "big leagues" huh? I will be interested in seeing how your new rig responds at the track. How much faster you will turn laps and such

dave - I'm ahead of ya! my last race - i recorded all my lap times, as well as some simple performance tests. wanted to make sure the reflex was indeed faster around the corners, and the new mill should help it be faster in the straights.

this will be interesting...how much is lap times actually affected by equipment. For your wallets sake, I hope that it is quite a bit.

btw - spoke to Rody Roem in France today online, asking about break in proceedures - the break in cycle is very different for this engine. here is what he said:

We are using a modified version the Hudy bench so cannot really tell you which rpm's you should run the engine on.

Also there are some things I personally do not do is for example start the engine with an electric starter and this I do with 7 x 3 prop.

Anyway, you still want to do it in this way, I think in this way you cannot do a lot of things wrong. So before you start to run in an engine I suggest you cover the cooling-head with something so the engine heats-up properly(without the cover the engine will stay too cold).
Then start the engine and let it run rich at full throttle for 2-tanks at a temperature of about 80°C.
Then 2 more tanks at 90°C.
Then 1 more tank at 100°C.

After this your engine is almost run-in, however you need to finish the rest of the running-in in the car for about 2 more tanks and you are then ready to go.

Hope this helps you further.

- Rody Roem

interesting process

I like the part about full throttle rich. Who would have thought? Does this mean a Hudy is in order?

i asked about the hudy - he explained a way to do this with a couple of pieces of wood as engine mounts, and a table vice.

i talked to rody a lot when I got my first RB and he is kick ass! He knows his stuff. Everything from what engine is best for your app to what combos of sleeve and block and head shims will be the best for an all drag race car.

Lucky Ass getting a Rody V12... Yeah I am jealous!

Just to put this engine in prospective. With my non-mod X-12 5 port, I kept up with a JP 3 port. The V12 Rody, I hear, blows all previous RB 12s out of the water. Especially the V12 Rody 5 port, but the 3 port aint that far behind.

man i can't wait, I'm just itching for it! lol. according to rody, the difference between the V12 5port, and the V12 Rody 5 port - is more dramatic than the difference between the X123port and the V125port. thats a HUGE increase in power! whoohoo. they are preshimming it for me too, so it can use 30%
