I'm hoping everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day! Got a chance to do some racing yesterday, which was nice! Good day for it, overall!

I'm asking everyone that reads this to take just a minute to thank the women and men who served our country for their dedication. I'm not insinuating that it needs to be a formal, lengthy ceremony. Just a small gesture of remembrance.

Last year I took my son to a local cemetery to show him the graves of servicemen and women simply to show him that it is important that we take just a moment to remember and thank them. As we walked around looking at the headstones and noting those that had served in the various wars, we came across a stone that appeared no one was tending to. His name is William Adams and he was a Private in WWII. My son and I decided we would "adopt" Pvt. Adams and this year we returned with a couple small American flags and a handmade sign my son drew that we laminated and mounted on a few popsicle sticks. I also brought my little girls as well and she picked a few flowers to lay at his stone as well. The three of us spent maybe five minutes brushing the leaves and stuff away from the stone, we thanks Pvt. Adams and headed home. On our way, both my kids asked if we could come back another day with soap and water to really clean his stone, bring some potting soil and small flowers and really make his stone look nice. Made me very proud of both of them.

Anyway, I hope all of you enjoy the day!

Id like to say thank you to all those that are across the pond fighting there butts off so we can be free here in the USA! And to those that have given their lives fighting for this great country. Once again Thank You.

Great story Monkey, and great thread! I'm kinda speechless after reading you story.

Those who have paid the price.

Plus one for your sentiments Monkey.

We are about to leave the house to go to a parade in our little town to honor the fallen and those still serving to protect our freedom.

My youngest is playing in his marching band, and I am sure I will get to personally thank many of the vets who reside in our community as we have VA DOM right here and we invite them all to a free BBQ.

With a brother in law still in the ARMY ( 3 tours to Iraq) and most of my family members having served, we really try to convey the ultimate price that has been paid for the lifestyle we all share to our children.....Lord knows they will be fighting for it in some fashion or another, during their lifetimes.

So, honor the fallen ....thank the living, and live your life in thankfulness that the price was paid for you already, in advance.

Well put Talon! Thanks to all who have served and are serving our country!

That is a great story Monkey, tell your kids we are proud of them!

As a 13yr vet myself, I fly my flag proudly and honorably. I saw a WW2 vet in K-mart yesturday he was wearing his old tatterd class A shirt I stopped shook his hand and thanked him. I feel a sence of pride just by acknowledging a vet cus I have a sense of what they went thru even though I had never seen combat. I make sure to tell my kids that those colors on the flag aren't just colors they mean something. Happy memorial day to all those who have served and are currently serving & this not only goes for those in the military I think it also apply's to those in law enforcement and the fire departments. Anyone willing to put they're lives in danger so the rest of us may be safe. GOD BLESS THE USA

I'm a non-combat Viet Nam era vet, but I have a lot of attachments to vets living and dead, and some badly damaged.
One day is a small token of thanks to these courageous people.
Monkey Wrench, you just went up 10 points in my book. I think everyone should 'adopt' a forgotten veteran. Beautiful story, and a wonderful lesson for your kids. Thanks.

I Agree Rolax lets see if we can keep this thread going for all our service men and woman past and present.
