Mega tech .16 opinions

I am interested, or thinkgin about the megatech .16 pull start engine for a replacement for my maxx.

Has anyone used one of these? if so do youhave any opionions. It would just be for bashing.

I'm really looking for someone who has run one.

Here's a link

I've got one in my Maxx, and though it still runs, I can't think of anything to add to Eddys post. :jet: Run away as fast as you can.:moped:

Thanks for the advice. It's going to be a couppe of weeks before I get the funds together. I want something that has decent power, and isn't too hard to tune.

I wish your fantom was Pullstart FastEddy.

If I remeber right Fantom does have pull start engines. Check out their site. I believe its fantom-motors.com.

If your on a budget check this engine out. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFDJ4&P=7 it;s made for a T-maxx and should bolt right in for you. Pull start and everything. The thing I look for in an engine that is made for bashing is a reasonable price and how much it cost for a piston and sleeve if I like that engine and want to rebuild it later. The piston and sleeve for this engine is 30 which is 1/3 the price of the whole engine. Which is reasonable to me. I used to like O.S. engines, but I realized that their piston sleeve combo cost more than 1/2 the price of the engine which makes rebuilding o.s. engines pointless. Also I look for replacement parts to be readily available. and if you like shopping from towerhobbies, they have everything you need for this engine. So i recommend the wasp .18.

DO NOT GET THE MEGATECH .16!!!! they suck :censored: balls. i had ran 2 of them and hated them. they were a pain in the butt to start, tune, and keep a tune. neither one made it through 2 gallons. one of them the piston rode broke during BREAK IN!!

Other than that I can't think of any reason not to get one.

LMAO dude,

Lykan - Hey dude, Two bash buddies ran them and they and I weren't impressed to say the least. Is this for the older Maxx with Side exhaust I'm assuming. THeir's allot of good "drop-in" engines options for the older and 2.5 T-maxx with IPS Traxxass shaft, depending on budget of course.

Not trying to spam, I've got a mule workhorse Traxxas .15 Pro with less then a half gallon through it. Holds a tune perfect and is easy to tune...you'd think it was an O.S. It's not gonna run with a 2.5 but it still produces good power. I'd keep it but I don't have th older Maxx anymore. Let me know if you want it and I'll sell it cheap.

Peace

Yes, Fantom makes pullstart engines. I run a .15FR with pull start and rotary carb in my T-Maxx (yes, it is the old style T).

Fantom makes some great engines. If you are going for a new one, get the .18. more power and more fun.

Here's kind of my thought. I have a brand new .18 XTM in the stadium truck. I also have this dynamite mach .15 in the older style T

The XTM is rear exhaust. How hard is it to put a rear exhaust motor on an older maxx? With the right header of course.

I was thinking (bad idea). I could put the XTM .18 in the older style T. Then I could put the .15 in the stadium truck. A .15 should be enough for a stadium truck. Judging by the way this XTM .18 runs, it should be more than enough for the maxx. Is this a good or a bad idea?

I am reeeally thankfull for all the input on the megatech. I was looking on Ebay for motors and saw this one for $65. I thought "damn for $65 i'll just eget a new one". I guess you get what you pay for, no00oo way I'm going to try one now.

There are so damned many options it gets confusing. I think that's why even after a search new guys ask questions.

PS, non PS. Short shaft, long shaft. Side ex, rear exhaust. .21 BB, .21 small block. Slide carb, rotary carb. Which will fit, and whats the best choice for what you need. gah!

All most people want is decent power, tuneability, and plug and play.

BTW 30%NitroBoy your PM box is full.

lykan-

If you want a dirt cheap small block side exhaust engine, that will make your old style T Maxx fly, go to e bay and do a search for RC10GT. You should be able to find a brand new AE .15 pull start engine pulled from a new RC10GT for around $75-90 bucks with the factory aluminm tuned pipe, engine mount, clutch, flywheel, and all.........

Sell the engine mount, and header, and keep the rest..

They will bolt in place of the stock TRX .15, but you will need to change the clutch set up if you are using reverse in your T Maxx. The stock clutch doesn't have a return spring on the clutch shoes, and they tend to make the spur gear on a T Maxx spin at idle. This will keep the trans from shifting between forward and reverse.

If you are set up with a Fwd only trans, you should be in good shape.

A buddy of mine pulled one of these out of a RC10GT and put it in his T Maxx with the stock 15t cb, and you couldn't keep the nose down if you tried. It still ran good mph because those engines will rev into the stratusphere.

You can buy a bunch of different clutch bells for em, if you decide you dont like the gearing with the 15t cb.

If you have reverse, and you want to keep it, You will need to change over to an MIP clutch set up. They have a 2 shoe clutch kit with return spring for the AE .15 that works GREAT.

Trust me, you'll love it.... and you can buy parts for them anywhere, DIRT CHEAP.

For instance......

I have bought these engines from this guy on e bay before. He's a good seller, and ships stuff fast.

Toss that carb restricor if you get one..
