Recently bought a used tmaxx. Drove it last couple of days without any problems. Reverse never worked though. Was driving it today and when I let off the throttle and let it just roll, I could hear a clicking sound that I had not heard before. Not too sure what it was and after about 5 minutes of driving it, it would no longer go forward. Took apart tranny and the reverse gear (pn#4995) is stripped. Not sure how long its been stripped but don't know why this gear would cause forward motion to not work. Any ideas or thoughts I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

I guess I still don't understand why it won't go forward when the reverse gear is the stripped one. Where can the FOC be purchased? Thanks.

I found mine on ebay. All of the gears spin at the same time in the tranny. The reverse gears spin in the opposite direction of the forward gears. I think.:) Regardless, an foc will fix ya up. As long as your forward gears are in good shape.

Best I can tell that 1 reverse gear is the only one that obviously has problems. I'm guessing the FOC is a simple install since I've already got the tranny split?

Sure is. The foc will come with an instruction sheet. Basically, you take all the reverse crap out and replace it with one shaft with a gear on it.

Guess I'll be looking into the FOC. Any chance there is a problem with the diffs or you think its only the tranny at this point? Do you know if the diff gears are nylon as well or are they steel? Thanks man.

I am not sure if the diff gears are nylon or steel but I doubt you broke the front and rear at the same time. turn the wheels by hand and listen to the diffs. My rear diff crapped out and I drove it with front wheel drive for about two tanks. I just replaced the whole diff as an assembly.

Diff gears are metal. Hold the center shaft and spin a tire. Make sure they spin opposite of each other, smoothly and with not a whole lot of play. Do this with each tire, then hold each tire one at a time and spin the other one. Make sure the center shaft is spinning properly. A broken diff will usually show it self with some grinding/clicking and/or loss of drive.
