I got a max 2.5 black tranny I took it out today and it wouldn shift into second gear I adjusted the shift point to try and get it to but still wouldn. Removed the tranny and cracked it open to find nothing. removed the drive hub and looked it over and I read on the traxxas site theres supposed ti be a spring u der the grub screw so I completely removed and I didn't see one I'm guessing this is the problem could I just buy the spring or do I need a new drive hub assembly

Is the pawl just loose/ dangling around in the clutch hub? There are 2 screws in the hub, the 1 that is tapped straight is the 1 that anchors the hub to the shaft. The angled screw is the shift point adjustment.

And yes, there should be a spring and a small BB between the adjustment screw and the pawl.
BB inserts 1st then the spring. Without the spring and BB the shift change into 2nd gear will be almost immediate.

ill have to be sure the pawl is tight I'm pretty sure it is tho and when i took my grub screw for the shift out there wasn't a bb or a spring. When it takes off it just goes wot and never shifts its staying in first tho i know that bc it is no where near as fast as normal. What gets me is the last time i had the truck out it was shifting fine put it up bc i busted some shock rod ends while jumping it and blew out some bearings. but fixed that and got it out yesterday and wouldnt shift I'm thinking about just buying a new drive hub assembly off egay for like 12 bucks

Without the spring and BB the pawl should be loose in the hub and should swing in and out very easily unless the hub is damaged. The threads do not extend far enough in the hub for the adjustment screw to be screwed too far in to lock the pawl without the spring and BB.

my bad i was mixed up on what you were talking about its not loose or floping around i tried to pull it out and i couldnt move it maybe the spring and bb are are wedged somehow

I've repaired a few, but if the spring is damaged it is best to just purchase a new hub assembly.

You probably have to buy the whole thing anyway. They dont like to sell the really small parts seperatley. I needed the shift pads for the 2.5 reverse fork. They wanted me to buy the whole fork to get the pads. All that was just as much as a FOC. It was a no brainer for me.
