Just wondering how many of you guys know how to drive a manual, and how many actually DO drive a manual. IMO it's something everyone should know how to do but it seems to be a dying skill in the US. Me and my parents are the only people I know who can drive one... lol

My dad taught me how to drive the little Ford Focus and I think it's alot more fun to drive than an automatic :)

Kids these days...

My first vehicle (motorcycle) was a manual. I prefer them over automatics any day.

I do. 2005 Civic Si.

My first car was a '95 Monte Carlo. It was an auto. I'll never own another auto again. I hate them.

lol it suprises me how many people dont know how....my tempo was, my corolla is, my toyota pickup was, my work equipment is (5sp w/2sp)....all of my motorcycles were...i can't imagine not knowing how, but its SO easy to learn just dont over think it.

The car I learned to drive on was a Ford Festiva 4 spd. One of my first cars was a '91 Nissan Sentra 4 spd. I've also had an '84 Datsun/Nissan Maxima 5 spd, '01 Toyota Spyder MR2 5 spd, '92 Nissan 300ZX NA 5 spd, '92 Toyota Truck 5 spd, and currently I drive a '92 Nissan NX2000 5 spd.

I've had a whole bunch of automatics in between the cars above but nothing beats a manual when driving on twisty back roads. I love being able to hit a perfectly rev matched downshift.

I've driven standard almost all my life. Yeah, my last to sedans were automatic, but most of my other cars were stick. Learned stick on a '72 Chevelle. Then beat the hell out of a '72 Mustang until it fell apart. Then a '89 Honda CRX and the last standard was a '93 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I drove the Eclipse until 2004 when I needed to give it up to get a car big enough for my kids. I actually miss driving the stick, and still find myself looking for the clutch sometimes.

hell yeah! Especially when you're doin' a heel/toe.

I do that sometimes in the wife's CRV. I try to depress the clutch when I turn the key.

My first vehicle was a '76 Chevy Silverado step side. 3 on a tree.......... and if you know what that is, then you're old like me or really into cars. :hehe:
My dad and I moved the shifter to the floor, that truck was fun as hell to drive. My last 2 cars have been automatics, I don't mind but I sure miss the shifting sometimes. My wife's new Mazda has the 'manual' shifting, if you want to call it that. It's an automatic with the option to control the up and down shifts. Without a clutch it's not really shifting!! :hehe:

3 on the tree lol, u are old.

Gonna sound weird I'm 15 and dont have my license or permit. But my dad left me drive yesterday on a back road by my house. And i dont know why but i got in the drivers seat and found myself looking for the clutch and the stick lol. I think becuase i been riding my buddies fourwheeler and its a clutch lol. And playing midnight club los angeles.

I can tell you're one of the kids who likes mechanical stuff. Once you learn stick you won't want to drive automatic. It's much more fun to drive a manual lol

No automatic can beat the acceleration of a manual. You can't beat the sound either. Automatics sound so stupid with their fast shifting and all :D It's gotta be *rev*...*reeeev*...*reeeeeeeeeev* etc

I wouldn't even touch a sequential manual. even the likes of Ferrari, Aston, or even tiptronic... it's no fun without 3 pedals.

I'm waiting for the day that the video game industry picks up on it too. They've been doing 270 degree steering wheels for a few years nowk It's only a matyer of time before they make a gamr that will be compatible with a 3 pedal setup... At least that's what I've been wishing for.

Come on, man, you're slipping! Spell check! :D :D

Need for speed prostreet has a clutch you can use with the paddle, but I too never saw a steering wheel and pedal setup with a clutch.

Actually I own my first automatic now. I have had several vehicles over the years and they all ended up being standards. The only time I really like an automatic is in heavy traffic. Other than that.....I am tired of wearing out the carpet beside the brake reaching for a clutch.

I know how to drive stick, unfortunatly, my 96 chevy silverado is automatic....

If I could have found one that was manual at the time, i would have got it then and there! I love to drive stick.

I prefer manual over automatic anyday! My car is 5 spd, Saturn SL2. The only reason I keep/drive it is for the 35mpg.

Yes, I'm old and remember the 3 on the tree. Lot of fun when you're trying to show off and bang through the gears only to jam the linkage between gears!

Heh... I've done that a number of times in my car. The only major peformance downside I've noticed. I've gotten it stuck fairly well in 4th gear more than a couple times.
