In the next few weeks, I am going to buy my first RC car.

It will likely be a TT-02, as I want 4WD. Specifically, I will probably get the Tamiya 58682 ('1991 Audi V8 Touring').

I know I will need to buy a radio, receiver, servo, battery and battery charger.

RC cars tend to be twitchy, from what I can tell, when you steer left and right. However, I want mine to be smoother - almost like a real car.

To do this, am I looking for anything specific when I choose the radio, receiver and/or servo, or do they all allow this option?

You're choosing THE worst possible RC there is when it comes to wanting smooth steering. There has been many, many posts on this forum discussing just how bad the steering and a-arm setup is on the TT02. That chassis is mainly meant to be a display stand for their bodies. The fact that it will move forward and backward and go left and right is just a bonus. The steering is so sloppy on that chassis it will be driving a straight line for a foot, then turn 10° one way or the other all because the play in the steering. The car goes wherever it wants.

WickedFog's right, you know. People mod cheap tamiyas and spend money that would buy a decent kit from the start. You can always buy the body you like separately.

Carten kits are a very good deal in EU, not sure about US availability. Not an onroad guy so hopefully someone will chime in with more suggestions.

Besides that, a radio with steering expo or curves will help to dial in the steering feel. Radiolink or FlySky if you're on a budget, all but the cheapest radios have those options and more.

I imagine OP is trying to keep the budget low. What do you think about the Kyosho Fazer Mk2 Mercedes AMG GT3 ReadySet 1/10 4WD Electric Touring Car w/Syncro KT-231P for just a little bit more? Even comes with the Syncro Tx which I personally really enjoy the feel of. And bonus points for it being a kyosho 😎

Of course they won't get the satisfaction of building a kit though..

The Kyosho EP Fazer Mk2 FZ02-R 1971 Datsun 240Z Rally ReadySet (Red) w/Syncro KT-231P will also be released soon if OP wants to stick with the old school rally look, but will be notably pricier. I see you’ve already started a Thread on this.

After scrolling through your thread now I kinda want one.. thing looks sick

Yeah, the Fazer would be an improvement. I have never owned one, but I have seen them drive and they look like they at least can drive a straight line.

MST makes some good on-road stuff. Rlaarlo is another one I can think of that is fairly cheap.

What they said ☝️

My TT just sits on the shelf now. Destroyed on the inside. Think I shredded the diffs. Now who knows where that car gets sent too.

Ideally anything is better than a Tamiya. Kyo Fazer, Traxxas 4tec, Rlaaro too.

Didn’t even think about a 4tec. That would be a perfect on road beginner car

when I Raced 4wd offroad 1/10 scale.. I ran a tto2 ..it did have a coming out of a turn. Slight wobble. it was corrected bu Ex potential. neg for me..butt youll read it takes away from your steering..

Thank you for all of your responses; it is appreciated it.

In the end, I decided not to go with a Tamiya RC car.

When my new car arrives, I will see how twitchy it is. I know there are many servo upgrades for it to make handling more responsive but as you can imagine from my original post, I may prefer stock if it's a little sluggish.
