I'm interested in making a jump for my storm! This will be my first jumping experience so i want one that isnt to steep and a beginners one. I also want it wide not very wide but so i wont miss it!

You can get plastic skateboard ramps from ASDA for a tenner.

HI jamie.......HUHHHHH>????? You wanna Jump huh. Well the most logical question would be, do you wanna jump on pavement or dirt? A Well equiped Buggie can handle some nice jumps but it still isn't a MT when the SHTF. For a Beginener on pavemnet or dirt I would reco a jump with no more then 14" of approach angle and you can make it as wide as you want. I'm assuming that your talking about dirt. You can use a Plethora of materials to make a "crude" jump but cardboard and cheap wood works great.

Thats for the help. I want to jump on dirt and want to make a jump myself

Hardboard is cheap and you could probably cut it with a Stanley knife if you're careful. Use it smooth-side down. The unfinished side will provide better grip for the tyres. Like all particle board materials, it will tend to break up if it gets wet though.

Rough-sawn or reclaimed timber is quite cheap and would be good material for the sides of the ramp. Needs to be quite thick though, at least half an inch.
Use countersunk screws to fasten the hardboard to the sides of the ramp and add a brace under the ramp at the back to stabilise the two side pieces.
I reckon the top of the ramp should be at least one and half buggy lengths long.
The hardest bit will be cutting the sides of the ramp to shape.

or you could just get a peice of plywood for 8 bucks and stick whatever you can find under one end...

a piece of brand new 4 x 8 sheet = springy! Your truck hit that thing and go to take off and catch and nice out of control bounce...seen it done too many time skating, biking and dirtbiking....

Jamie, heres how you build a ramp....

Take a sheet of play wood.....take a pen and draw out the shape of the curve like you want it....starting from the bottom corner and going upwards. Ok, now cut that shape out, put it on another piece of plywood(you may have room on your original piece) and trace that shape out again, and cut that out. Now you have your two shape forming sides.

Now decide how wide the ramp should be. Set up your two sides and measure to get it the right width. Using your measurements, cute 2x4s to that length and put them on the side the two sides. Some at the bottom and some going up the ramp.

NOTE! - Those drawing is pretty sketchy do not mount in that way...

No alway remember that its easy to break a board threw the 2inch part than threw the four inch part. So always mount the boards with 2 inch flat piece up wards. Also remember to make the flat part go along and be flush with the curve.....take a jig saw and shape it a little bit if you must to make jumping surface sit easier. Inace you havent figured it out..to hold the boards inplace you just put a screw or two threw the outside shaped supports into the 2x4 braces. If you need a better diagramph let me know, I'll make one.

Okay....now you should have something starting to look like a ramp or almost one. Now take a piece of plywood and and soak it in water for long periods of time, contantly let a water hose run across the wood as to make it flexible without it breaking. Now lay it long was across the ramp....that mean 8 foot wide and 4 foot high, this helps the bend go alot easier....it takes alot of pressure off the board and prevents cracking. One the board is layed down take a pencil and mark off the place to gun along the curve REMEMBER- Leave a little extra at the bottom for a smooth way to enter the ramp transition. Cut it out, lay the board in place and put screws in. Threw the jumping surface intot he 2x4s under it, and also in the sides if you have room(I doubled up the ply wood on botht he sides and jump surface because mine was made to hold me no my skateboard before it was RC.)

I'd advise using some kind of protecter now if you plan on keeping it oudoors. Thompsons water sealer, a couple of coats of paint, a piece of sheet metal as I have, many possibilites.

Here are some pictures of my ramps and such if you need a little help picturing what I'm explaining.

All these ramps I have personally built from stratch...if you need anymore help, dont hesitate to PM with with any questions.

Now go build a damn ramp, and cut a few back flips!

all a ramp is - is a wedge, build one like bashmaster said,& if you like the way it performs make it permanent with screwed or nailed down supports.

Technically, it is justa wedge but he's wanting more of jump, but ramp is another common name. A wedge is nothing more than a angles surface. I'm sure thats goo and all but to get high, you'd have to angle the board steep, which when the buggy hit it would loose speed because of the flat to steep angle change. View Itsmesag1,Zandor22, and Ryhton's ramp that made....listen to how hard it hits and look at the loss of speed. Also you can't make the wedge were as it wont hit the board hard and get tons of air, u gotta kind of sacrafice one or the other....so...make a transition as I pointed out and it will jump nice and smooth without a loos of speed or high/distance. Also, you can shape a trans the way you need it..more distance...more height, or both.

I've jumped about everything with wheels, from skateboards to fullsize trucks, and it's all relative. If you start with a simple wedge, you'll learn whats best for your application w/o all the work involved trying to make something permanent until you know the shape you want, thats all I was saying.I prefer the shape of a sand pile after a dump truck dumps it out on a nice flat surface, with the transition being from asphalt to dirt, the run up being on asphalt the landing on dirt, but thats just me.

Thanks for the help ill go and get the pieces of wood from the DIY store next weekend or so! Ill let you know how its coming on on AIM

Use a shovel and build it out of dirt.

Pro-Easier to change it you don't like it.

Con-Not movable when you don't want it out. Well not easily anyway.

Wate land i like the mini ramp (half pipe, orwhat ever you want to call it) I wish i could skate on that!
