RC Driving Style
I was wondering what is good practice after a run? Or a mud run?
Are there any good maintenance kits out there?
What is good to do after a good run?

What spare parts would you suggest to keep on hand?
I have a LST XXL

Spare parts: Extra A-arms and tie rod ends, maybe an extra shock tower for the front. I would also keep an extra ignitor on hand and battery for your starter if its not a pull start.

After run: After I finish a good bashing session I like to put the piston at BDC, and suck out any remaining fuel. When I get home, I start cleaning and make sure I get all the big crap out. Once everything is somewhat clean I pull the air filter and glow plug and put a couple drops of after run oil in each, the clean the filter and replace. I also like to oil any rotating parts after every couple of runs.

So do you actually dissemble it, or just clean what you can get to? When you suck out the remaining fuel thats from the tank correct?
I have read to run the car dry and then add after a few drops of after run to the carb. then turn the engine over. Run it dry? Is that correct? That just sounds wrong.

More silly questions..
I'm trying to find what you posted above on the parts list. (A-arms and tie rod ends, extra shock tower) Do those things go by other names? Or possibly show me a pic....Lamer here lol

Run it dry, but don't be on the throttle as it runs out. It will rev up a bit as it runs out.

When I run mine in mud, I hit them with a garden hose, then used compressed air to get the water off the metal parts, then hit the metal joints/bearings with WD40. My receiver/servos are waterproofed, so I don't have to worry about getting them wet. Even still, you could hit your arms, shocks, rear diff area with a hose, then air, then wd.

I usually put 6 drops down the glow plug hole and a couple in the carb, then pull the cord a few times to work it around. Make sure to put your piston at BDC when done.
 
The A-Arms are the parts that hold the hubs, which hold the wheels.

Front shock tower Aluminum, this crosses over and is the same as the LST1 and LST2:

Front A-Arms, need to order 2 of these sets, so if you go with the stockers, order 2, if you go RPM get 2 adaptors and 2 sets of a-arms:

And when I clean my rig I just brush everything out with a toothbrush and denatured alcohal, and if it really needs it I will break down the rig to give it a nice cleaning, mainly if it gets muddy.

I'm not sure you need to switch to RPM arms anymore. The XXL arms are made of the same plastics as the 8 series use. Meaning they are hard as nails.

Would those be considered upgrades? I suppose I should do upgrades as I replace things.

I like the sound of lifetime...So I'm guessing I'd get 2 of the Adjustable Camber A-arms for the Losi LST & Aftershock, and Replacement Camber Rods...correct?


So in summary..I guess all I would need these if I want the lifetime warranty From RPM
2 x Replacement Camber Rods
2 x Adjustable Camber arms
1 x A-Arm Adapter kit

And last I would need
Front Shock Tower

Should I get a few plugs too?

What about packing grease, oils..whatever?

I'm a computer nerd so this is all new to me...A little frustrating at first, but when I had the car running for a few last night....Man it was a blast!!

Not sure what plugs yours will use. McCoy MC8's work well in my engines.

If you go with RPM arms, throw away the turnbuckles that come with them and get either lunsford:

I've been running RPM/lunsford on my aftershock for almost 2 years. Have yet to break an arm or bend a turnbuckle. Definitely a good investment for a basher.

I tried the turnbuckles that come with RPM arms and busted two of the off in my arms within the first tank of fuel... sucks to have to cut into your new arms because of a snapped off turnbuckle.

Looks like .18-.46 Medium Nitro by Dynamite is stock. Is the the O'Donnell OD-9 a good plug? Any better? How would I go about finding better plugs? What is rule of thumb?
 
Oh, just rolled up, you have the XXL, which has the Losi 454 which is a clone of the LRP28S3. That's what I have two of and I run the MC8's. I used to run OS8's, but the MC8's are a bit cooler and make it run a bit better with 25% fuel.

Never tried odonnel plugs. That's their medium heat plug and should work ok with your engine and 20-25% nitro fuel.
 
I agree 100% with Olds on the lunsford turnbuckles (the link between the plastic). I had forgotten about these. To give you and idea of how tough the RPM/Lunsford set up is I hit a big double at the track and landed on the side tube, they use the big 10 inch nails to hold them down and one of them was sticking up about a half inch. My truck went from full speed to dead stop, stopped by a 10 inch nail catching my right side front A-arm, and it kept on kicking with nothing broken. I would reccomend this for sure, its all in how much you want to spend. In the long run the RPM arms are worth it, especially with the lifetime warranty.

One more question on this....
What about Shock oils, tire glue, and diff fluid? Should I be getting those as well?
BTW..Where do you get 25% fuel?
So what does the % stand for...whats that do for ya? I see 30% around, would that work with the MC8? Not sure how all that works.

Maybe pick up some 40-45 weight oil for the shocks in case you don't like yours, but it isn't necessary right away. I believe the diffs are loaded with grease from the factory. I cleaned mine out and put in 50K oil for bashing. Again, not necessary.

The % on fuel usually pertains to nitro percentage. Although, it's noted on a few fuels as two percentages, i.e. 25%/10%, 25% nitro, 10% oil blend. That leaves 65% for methanol.

My LRP manual suggested 25% nitro to be the minimum, so I started running that in all my rigs. Although, I usually am forced to buy a gallon of 30% and 20%, then mix it 50/50 myself. I do like how the extra 5% makes it run though. Much better idle, a bit more power and a bit cooler. I just make sure to buy the same brand/type of fuel when I'm mixing.

The only fluids I'd consider "required" are fuel, after run oil, 3-in-1 oil and air filter oil.

I use a mix of 3-in-1 and WD40 to lube my normal bearings and my one way bearings in transmissions. But normal old 3-in-1 works well too.

That is my fault, I couldn't find the stock shock towers. The shock towers dont really take a lot of abuse unless you run without a body or body posts, but for the extra money you will have a little extra bling and a rigid shock tower.

DO NOT PUT THE GARDEN HOSE TO YOUR LOSI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clean it up with some weak cleaner and then blow it off.They make some spray cleaners that are electronic safe! LOSI ROCKS! & PROVES IT! Good luck.
