I just purchased a Savage 25 from a buddy of mine. I was wondering what type of grease I need for the front and rear diffs? Is it something specific or something I can get at an auto parts store?

if u have a local hobby shop near u then i would just get some from there. the stuff i use is called black grease and the company is team asicatted (spelling)

I'd recommend using diff oil instead of grease. It doesn't pack around the gears like grease does and always keeps your spiders well lubed.

When you decide to rebuild your diffs, clean them up with your cleaner of choice, buy some new seals, and rebuild them with fluid, and you'll be much happier.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply

You use it on the inner cup. On the main ring/pinion, you just use a normal grease or a lube of some sort.

The inner cup that contains the spider gears is sealed. It will hold a heavier viscosity oil for quite a while. Lighter oils work themselves out through the shafts, but a 20K or more oil should stay in pretty good.

I run 50K in my savage, both front and rear, and I really like it.

As far as the grease goes, can I use something more widely available, like wheel bearing grease or lithium grease, or does it have to be something from a hobby store? This is for the main ring/pinion front and rear.
