RC Driving Style
I bought an LST2 a little while ago and I was driving it around when it slipped out of gear. I didnt really do anything because when the motor revved down it went back into gear. I drove it around some more and it did it again. When it went back into gear and I drove forward some it came out again and did this every time i drove forward. I know that it is the forward/reverse because when it is in low it does the same thing. When it is out of gear and you shift it into reverse it goes in reverse but in forward it just slippes out again.

Any help would be appreciated, I have not taken the transmission apart yet too look at it but it would be nice if I didnt have to.

Josh

It sounds like it's just a linkage adjustment. Apparently it goes far enough to stay in reverse, but not far enough in the other direction to lock into forward.
Adjust the servo horn, or if you have a computer radio, adjust the end point travel.

The problem is with the travel on the servo as Rolex said but there is no linkage adjustment on the LST2 gear selector, its just a servo saver with a straight linkage. Look at your manual for how to adjust the "epa" or end points for how far the servo moves and make it engage the forward portion of the travel harder. This is all done from your transmitter. Because it has a servo saver you can have it travel a bit past where it needs to and the load will be taken up by the saver until it engages. This will also insure that once it does engage its locked in rather then just barely engaged and make sure you don't end up stripping the selector in the transmission

Thanks for that info, Z. It's possible he can remove the servo saver and adjust it by moving it one or 2 splines.
If it's just a 3 Ch without EPA, that's about all he can do.

Need some more info, Josh. What kind of radio do you use?

I dont think that it is a linkage problem or an EPA adjustment that is the problem because the piece on the transmission that the linkage connects to is moved as far as it can go until it hits the tranny casing.

I use the radio that came with the car. It is a JR XR3 digital reciever that does have epa for the third channel.

Well... you could ditch reverse and install an FOC. Then you won't have to worry about it again.

It could also be your one way bearing on your two speed. When it's in first gear, the OWB is what is transferring the power from the engine to the trans. Once it goes into second, it's a two shoe carbon clutch that does the power transfer and the OWB spins freely. The OWB's on MT's get the snot beat out of them and they do fail over time.

I know you said reverse seems to hold and forward doesn't. But, how many times have you gone WOT in reverse? A weak OWB would work if your not hard on the gas. As soon as you goose it a little, it will slip.

Just a thought.

I just went outside to drive it and see if it was the OWB and it drove fine for a while. But about halfway through the tank of fuel it did it again, this time when I tried it in reverse it didnt work either. I walked over to it and gave it some throttle again and it worked. But when I drove around again it did the same thing so I took it inside and looked at the OWB but it looked fine. The entire 2 speed was warm and the slipper clutch was the hottest. I didnt think that the slipper would do this though because sometimes it would drive normal and sometimes it would not even move.

Tighten up the slipper. Just like in a 1:1 car, when you have a worn clutch, it will slip badly once it's hot.
If your slipper gets that hot, more than likely it's slipping WAY too much, then glazes over when it's hot, and won't pull any more.

Tighten the slipper completely and back it off one full turn. That should get you in the ball park if the slipper pads aren't fully cooked.

Moisture in servo

I have the same problem in my LST2 and it is caused (in mine anyways) by moisture in the servo. Everything will be adjusted fine and then it slips out of gear. Every once in a while, the servo jogs for no reason and lets it slip out of gear. I opened the servo and found water drops in it. I was running it in the snow when it happened. I'm sure the same could happen if it is very could outside and you bring it indoors (condensation).

hmmm, sounds like the mighty LST2 still has some gremlins in its design!!
My 5 week old 4tanks of fuel LST2 also started popping into neutral.
Rang the LHS for their advise, "Sure he said, the problem is that it comes out of the factory, with just a light coat of grease in the tranny, and I bet your tranny is pretty dry by now which means that the selector fork isn't sliding completely back and forth, thus not going into gear properly. You will have to open her up and give it a grease up" So I did that....... still popped into neutral.

Consulted our forums, (this one too) The reply? check your epa, make sure you are getting full travel on your linkage..... did that too, set the epa to 125%!!......... still popped into neutral.

Asked president of local r/c club...... "yep it happens all the time, its your OWB mate, it gets all gummed up after awhile, you gotta remove it and clean it, and let it soak including the slipper pads and housing in brake cleaner" So I did......
Reasembled this morning and let it rip. Went well for a minute, then SMASH!!!
Walk up to it have a looky through the gear cover, and bugger me first spur gear is stripped!!
So I proceed to break it down again, remove the stripped spur gear, goto remove the second spur gear, and the clutch assembly has binded into the spur, impossible to seperate them, so pull that off to look at the slipper pads, and YOWSER!! they have now turned a very mustardy yellowy colour, completely fried!!
I assembled it according to the manual, everything on in the righ order, nylock nut one turn out yada yada yada......... WHAT WENT WRONG???
No more messing around with theorys for me, have ordered a whole new assembly from the basket forward

I took my tranny apart to see if some damaged had occured and to re-grease it. The light coat of grease was mostly gone and there was some light rust inside. The engagement mechanism looked fine. I cleaned and greased it but I have not tried it yet. If the problem persists, I may attempt to file a slight dovetail so that it is less likely to disengage while under load.

Mine started as an aftershock... no reverse. The only issue I've had with the trans is the grabby brakes (fixed with CF disk) and a weak two speed assembly (fixed with LST1 two speed off ebay).

My buddies had issues with reverse, fried servos. One got an FOC, the other ziptied his linkage to always be in forward and removed the servo...

I have fixed it! It was the OWB bearing. A person down the road from me has an lst2 and his did the same thing.
