I'm just a basher, so I'm looking for a combo that allows for 6-8 foot air without hard bottoming out. I run smaller MT tires (t-maxx chevrons), so that eats up some of the "cush" that the stock LST or aftershock offers.
I was running stock oil (30 weight I think?) with LST2 shocks and yellow springs. Mounted on RPM arms I had the upper in the inside hole and the lower in the outside hole. It bottomed out pretty hard even from 4-5 foot air... so I upped the oil weight to 45, which helped a little, but not much.
So, this week I picked up some new oil. They didn't have 80 like I had wanted, so I bought 100 and 60, then mixed it 50/50 and filled all shocks. I then moved the lower end of the shock to the furthermost inside hole to give me a bit more ride height. This helped quite a bit, but it's really bouncy on smaller jumps 4 foot and under, and as you could imagine, the extension of the shock is very slow... Also, when I hit a non-curved ramp at any real speed, the truck bounces off the lower portion of the ramp due to the oil being so stiff and not allowing the suspension to load up.
I'm I just hoping for something I can't have with an LST platform? Or am I missing something?
I'm thinking of getting RC Raven dual rate springs and I've already ordered some 60 weight oil. I'd like to have this pegged by tomorrow so I could order whatever I needed to help me for next weekend.
It may just be the magic item is the RC raven springs.
I think losi springs are:
white - 4lb
silver - 5lb
black - 6lb
yellow - 7.4lb
RC Ravens range from 8.9 - 15, but that seems awefully high... maybe they rate them different? It seems like those springs with anything less that 60 weight would just bounce all over the place.
My rig with yellow springs/30 weight oil, bounces like mad. 45 weight bounced quite a bit. 80 weight doesn't bounce much at all if dropped 5 feet or so. In my mind, having a starting point 1.b higher than yellow springs would make the thing bounce a lot worse!
By the way, these are the RC Raven springs I'm considering buying... sent them an email asking if a "set" means 2 or 4. I wish they would just spell that stuff out on web-sites...

Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks.
