Either I'm very unlucky or this is a common occurrence, but i have already snapped a tooth off the rear bevel gear and chipped two others from my savage x which has only half a tank run through it after break in. Rather then replacing it with stock bevels and have to go through this all over again, are there any other bevels out there with a little more strength?

You know I just blew through one in the front and now the rear one has chewed itself up. My friend upgraded to the one from an E-Savage, don't really know if they are any tougher; he also had to get new dog bones since the ones off the 4.6 are to small in the bone end.

Lol, same thing happened to me. Brand new truck, sheared three teeth off the drive bevel, wore the diff bevel gear down in a couple spots. Just bought two of each on ebay. Not really sure if anybody makes a stronger set, looked, but not real hard.

Ok, did a little quick research. This is the set you need, heavy duty: http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/86922/

Also, make sure you are shimming them correctly. Also make sure the diff isn't shifting back and forth one the throttle. When it's in the truck, grab the outdrives and work them back and forth while spinning it. See if maybe it's loose enough to skip teeth.

You can also try the Flux gears.

+1000 I have the same X diffs in my upgraded 25 with a STS .28 and I shimmed them and I have not had one problem with them!

Well i just ordered hpi's bulletproof diffs off of tower hobbies. We'll see if they are any better. :D

My 13t bevel gears came today, ring gears should be here tomorrow, or maybe Saturday. Tonight I ordered shims, so it looks like it'll be next week before the X is up and running again.

That's ok, my Mutilator and Speed-NT are looking at me all sad from sitting on the shelf, so it's time to get them out and give em a good run.

The 'bullet proof' set are the way to go, they've replaced the 13 tooth bevel gear with a 9 tooth, it's far stronger.

This set has superseded all others and comes stock on all new Savage trucks.

I just installed the 'Maximizer' diff locker on the rear of my Savage XL, time will tell if the 'bullet proof' gears hold up with this mod!

Cheers.
:D

The bullet proof diffs are about as strong as going with the CEN diff upgrade for a savage.

Depending on the savage you have, getting alloy cases/gear box's will also help with shearing of teeth as it won't allow for flex that a plastic case will have. The X/XL cases do seem built better and less likely to flex, but they seem to mold them so tight that you can't adjust the shimming at all.

I had that problem tried everyting hpi sent me parts that didn't hold up got rid of the savage x

Hey awesome thanks! Too bad those are the wrong fricken shims. Now hopefully the two I had leftover will be enough, because I'm sitting on two bags of shims that don't fit my truck!

Ok, my bad. They do work, they're just designed to go outside the bearing rather than between the bearing and diff like the Savage shims
