Or so it seems....The front was spinning away so I thought I lunched the rear drive but on the stand, if you turn the front wheels, the back turn with them so that means there is a coupling between front and rear. What or where should I be looking at to determine the problem? Open the diff? If I punch the throttle the front wheels break loose on pavement. I don't recall it doing that before....

Well, I'd fire it up, warm it up, then gently hold it on the ground to simulate what your seeing, but without the truck driving away.

See what spins vs what doesn't. It could be a handful of things. When you gas it, your front center axle and outer axles and tires will spin. What your looking for is where things stop spinning on the rear.

Could be:
1) inside the trans directly
2) center axle missing a grub screw on the trans or diff
3) diff ring/pinion gears are shelled
4) diff internal spider/sun gears are shelled
5) diff sun gear pin is sheared off inside the diff cup
6) CVD issue out near the wheel on one of the diffs
7) cross pin that goes through the hex hub that the wheel bolts to

When you rev it and see what spins vs what doesn't, that will lead you to the problem.

Many find that is is #3 or #4.

all wheels rotate when idling and on the stand. I can hold the rear tires and rev it up, the fronts spin and the rears, you can feel some power transfer but nothing like the front. Haven't put it on the ground but I'll do that now

You don't have to. Just look and see what's spinning and what's not when you hold the rears on the stand. I only said put it on the ground for safety purposes.

just the fronts have all the power (but the rears still rotate if it's off the ground). Not having a lot of luck with this thing. So far it's two for two on the breakage per use count! just like the real thing I guess

ok, I removed the rear diff, haven't opened it up though because if I turn the drive shaft the axle shaft receivers turn fine. the diff seems to operate smooth, no binding etc.
So, how difficult is it to re and re the trans as I'm thinking the problem is in there.

Did you confirm that when you held the rear tires that the center rear axle did not spin when the engine was running? If not, do that first. Otherwise your problem may still be in your diff.

ah crap! I just put it back together. I think it was the grub screw on the output shaft. It came off quite easily so I applied some lock tite and tightened that up. it feels different. I'll fire it up and see what happens...
Thanks for the info

it was the set screw that attached the outdrive cup to the trans. All fixed up. Thanks for the assistance.

Cool. Probably could have found that without taking it apart! ;)

Glad it was a cheap fix. You might want to check your others and make sure they aren't loose either.
