I've been having a problem with my flywheel coming loose.

Nothing I've tried has held up for long. I've replaced the flywheel and collet, twice (so far)... I've tried locktite (red and blue)... I've tried shims... all to no avail. After four or so runs it blows loose, and I have to yank the motor to fix it.

What am I doing wrong?

BTW - this is an XTM .24 conversion.

(and why don't these engines have keyed crankshafts?????)

I've asked the same thing and get laughed off the page... I think it's one of those "It's how it's always been done" things.

Are you using shims behind the collet that are the same size in diameter as the collet? I've resorted to use shims on all my flywheels. I could never get the stupid thing to stay tight without them.

That's the only thing I haven't tried - I've had no luck finding shims or washers big enough to fit on the crankshaft.

Got a source?

Ummm... yeah, my LHS!

I don't remember the brand, but they were expensive for what they are. I think they were like $10 for 30 shims. Corralli maybe???

What engine is it? Once you know the crank dimension, you can just do a search for shim at tower and find something.
