His first hobby grade RC soon and hes on a real tight budget.. like 200 max budget and so far hes looking at the redcat vortex ss. He only wants nitro and so far for that budget theres not many options.

What do you guys thing of this kit ? I dont have much experience with redcat and dont know the quality.. there are few videos on this truck and before he buys it i would like some other opinions from people that maybe have had experience with this truck.

So yeah let me know, just trying to help my buddy out.

doesn't have to be RTR i can help him assemble it.

So basically :

Nitro only
RTR or assemble
no more than 200 shipped
He would like new but used is ok.
doesn't care if its 4x4 or 2wd

Ill keep an eye on the for sale section, until then let me know !!

Thanks guys/gals

Kody

Theres been plenty of debate lately about Redcat, Exceed, and other "midlevel" RC Manufacturers. My .02 - Keep saving your cash and look at a quality rig like an Associated,Traxxas, or a Losi. The better quality your getting by saving up an additional $100/$150 is unmeasurable in the longrun. Also consider what your LHS keeps the most stock of. Just my .02

Well he is on a tight budget and his wife is basically owning him and his income.. I convinced him to hide away every little bit of extra cash he makes and save it up. he said when he gets to 200 his wife will start to notice and hell instantly have to order it. So its sort of like all he can do is buy something cheap. I figure its better than nothing.

Also.. we dont have a local hobby shop. the closest one is 45 miles away. and they charge a TON of money. For instance when i was getting my savage x 4.6 i called them... they wanted 500+ dollars.. on ebay i found the truck bran new for 450 shipped. So right now hes looking on ebay and i mean i tried to show him name brand stuff but its simply out of his budget.

Sorry to hear that about your bud. Any chance he can put the $200 towards a less controlling wife? Just Kidding!!! With a price range like that what about a used namebrand? I personally hate buying used but it would be a way to get a better quality product. Dont get me wrong I dont hate redcat or anything ....Just tryin to suggest the best bang for the buck. Good luck

He was looking at used name brand but he ultimately decided he wants a bran new truck. In a way i have to agree with his decision because buying used you dont know how its been treated or if you have to rebuild it or not or if theres even more damage to the engine. or other parts..

I mean from looking at driving videos it looks pretty fun. i think the only thing so far i dont agree with on that truck is the tires. they are sort of small so i would suggest getting a larger tire.

Tell him to order the Vortex already!!! Seriously, his choices are limited and so are his options of getting any after his wife finds out so he may as well be happy. If he likes the Vortex I say go for it. Every rig is gonna break. Well, not Ralphs...

My brother in law chose to go Exceed for his SCT. Its an ok truck. Produces plenty of power with easy tuning characteristics. Think he spent $230ish. Only problem is hes now heavily invested into JB weld for the front suspension. Partly because of the rig quality and the other part of his quality issues is his lack of offroad driving skills. Bottomline - who cares what he drives as long as he drives!!!!!

Yeah exactly, and he loves it so much. When i let him drive mine it was his first hobbygrade hed ever driven. and he was ubsessed after that. he kept saying * I HAVE TO GET ONE !!!* so might as well have a hobby grade rc than nothing at all..

hes going to get this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Fast-...l_Vehicles&hash=item3a6dfd3c98#ht_4044wt_1017 and a starter kit and i guess it adds up evenly to 200. i told him hell be able to at least have a bran new rc and have some fun with it.

Any nitro for that price has to be worth a shot. $200 for a RTR? You can't go wrong. Or he can't go wrong rather! And let him know that if he needs divorce $ that theres some of us that will give him a fair price for it!!!:P

Haha, i told him ill help him any help he needs ill help him.. plus i personally believe redcat is starting to do better.. I'm actualy considering buying one of their 5th scale sc style truck they look pretty fun and good quality..

I mean you can't even compare it to the HPI but its half the price you know ?

I saw it when they first came out but I know what you mean. You see a vid of something like that at 1/2 the price of a 5T and it becomes difficult to say no. For me..... I dont have the room to run something that big. Even some of the 1/8 scale stuff I have I need to be quick on the binders so I dont end up in the woods/water. If you get it good luck!
