Looking at buying a 1/8th scale truggy but don't know what to look for. I've had 1/10th scale stadiums, road, and monster trucks, but never a 1/8th truggy. I looked at the Thunder Tiger ST-1, the Exceed Battalian, and the RC8T and ruled out the AE due to it's ridiculously high price. I'm not a racer by any means but I definitely know how to drive. I just want something I can drive around and bash on dirt, grass, pavement, etc. What should I look at buying? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but don't want some pile of crud that falls apart in 3 days. RTR not required, I have a full Futaba T3PDF radio system that isn't being used right now. Thanks for the help, just let me know what truggy you think I should look into.

Thanks!

The Mutilator pro would be a good choice.
Cheap, powerful and durable.

I'm with scrogg. The Mutilator is a strong basher truggy and at the moment comes with a Force .32
Well worth looking at.
Out of the other 2 the ST-1 is a fair rig.
You said you weren't a racer so it'd be ok.
Also I dont know what price they have on the X1 CRT over there at the moment but they're a good truggy, and can be made race competitive VERY easily.....

These questions all revolve around your budget. A Losi 8ight-T is a great truggy.. if you have the budget for it. You say you've already got a radio but what about servos? Most roller kits are either sans electronics (including servos) and/or without an engine. This may or may not mean a roller kit might be your best bet.

On the lower end of the price scale, I've been extremely satisfied with my Redcat Racing Monsoon truggy. It came as an RTR with an SH .28 engine for about $320 with the extra kit I threw in the order. Himoto and Exceed are similar price points & setups since until very recently they were just rebranded kits from the same Chinese distributor. I view Himoto and Redcat as the Hyundai of RC. An "entry-level" RC brand that I think will be moving up in quality & brand awareness, just like Hyundai has in the 1:1 market. Great values.

The Mutilator Pro looks like a pretty decent deal. What is the availability of replacement parts, aluminum upgrades, etc?

I've got a couple of Losi cars and I'm almost impartial to them. I may end up getting the Losi Truggy just because I have a loyalty to Losi and it seems to be an excellent rig.

I've seen a lot of losi in my area and they seem to hold fairly well.. i personally race a Cen Truggy (which is for sale!!)

Take a look at the Caster Racing K8T KIT or RTR Truggy. Very well built and tough truggies. KIT comes as a roller too so less to put together.

Amain has 8T Truggy's Race Roller for $369 drop in electronics and a MTR and your ready.

Don't forget the Xray XT8. Excellent Truggy and very durable. Might be more of a racer's choice though. I race the hell out of mine and and it has taken some serious abuse on the track and held through. Keep in mind your location and parts availability for anything you buy. When you brake something do you have a need to fix it same day? If so, then you'll need to see what's available at your local hobby shops. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

i love my losi 8ight-t i beat on it for few days and took it very well

but i never ran anyother so i can't say

Initially AE prices made me shy away a little but I'm a member of towerhobbies.com and googled discount codes, I found one for $50.00 Off. $469. Seemed better than $519. and better than $600 for a Mugen MBX6T, and I got free shipping! You're gonna end up spending the money some way or another whether it be hop up parts or other upgrades, pick the one you like, do some research and always look for a discount somewhere! I refuse to buy anything at the local Hobby Store anymore. I'm tryin to play and fund my entertainment. I'm Happy with my cheap RC8TCE.

If you are looking for a RTR truggy I suggest that you look at the Kyosho Neo ST Ready Set part # ky31683T2AKA.

They are selling on the street in the low $400 range. At some point you will want to upgrade the servos for more speed and power. Out of the box it is a great truggy and Kyosho has tons of upgrades.

I ran mine totally stock for 2 months before I started upgrading it. I was able to run competitively with it in RTR condition. I then added Savox servos and later a LRP .28 engine.
