This week has finally come to an end. I spent most of this week handing out ice to people who are still waiting for power to be turned back on after Isabel fame 10 days ago. There are still more than a hundred thousand people who don't have electricity here locally. Over 30,000 bags of ice have passed through my hands starting Tuesday morning. The days have been not less than 12 straight hours a day handing out ice. My body keeps telling my mind it's not 19 anymore but my mind keeps telling my body it could be worse. I have been parolled at least until Monday since they were thoughful enough to let us take a little time off and other are covering the weekend. Monday I'll be right back at it and the smiles of those I am helping will be more than enough to drive on giving ice out every day until they have power.

Oh yeah, to top things off I also quit smoking this week and made it through without killing anyone.

Though, I almost had a fist fight to get a cigarette Tuesday.

Cool beans buddy. It's guys like you that make this world a better place.

Guess I'm not gonna be somking in the van on the way to Fl, eh?

Was handing out ice and helping out part of work or just you volunteering? Either way that is a lot of ice!!!

Kudos to you for quitting smoking. Two of my family members both decided to quit. One is using the gum (I think) and the other quit cold turkey. Both are going on 1 month. They have had one or two off and on but that is really good considering they were both a pack a day smokers. And with costs of a carton of the good stuff they have already started to see the benefit of quitting. Think of it this way once you have stopped smoking that is extra RC money for the parts you manage to break in FL. :)

The armed forces are the saviors of the nation in times of crisis.

I went on leave many years ago and drove back to Texas. During the trip, while driving through Arizona and New Mexico, I heard reports of a tornado through Wichita Falls,Texas. (Which was coincidentally my destination.) Not until I reached my family's neighborhood did I see any damage.

It was totally strange to tell an airman that my home of record was this dark blown away street (while submitting leave papers for proof).

He nodded and indicated that I was indeed on Lockwood Street. If I had power I was lucky. If the plumbing worked I should boil all water.

My brother's car was blown into the back yard. The back half of the roof was taken off.

I got a hotel room back in town and caught up with everybody the next day.

I saw a two-by-four that had penetrated the hood of a Pinto. My mom had a friend who lost daughters in the storm. I got a bunch of free cigarettes that were deemed no longer saleable by the ATF. There were no stores in Wichita Falls that had any camera film.

Hats off to the airmen at Shephard AFB and the National Guard.

EP... When you say "smoking flight"... you mean a WOT run over an alligator on I-95 that gives "sick air"... right?

Congratulations on giving up a nasty habit.
