i have a tmaxx with a os 18. with single speed tranny. i want to put lockers in for better mud runs.is that a good idea? speeking of mud what do i need to do to make the electronics mud proof?

if you use the spool, make sure to upgrade to cvd's.the stock shafts will snap in no time flat.

Running in dirt shouldn't cause much of a problem. I ran a rear locker on my 2wd maxx with stock gears with an orion 18 for a long time without shelling an axle. I got sick of blowing spider gears... so I filled the cup with JB weld. Ran it that way for a long time.

As long as you never touch a hard surface other than dirt you should be ok. I am not a fan of locking the diff since it cost me a tranny once, but that is just a lesson learned.

ok well i got my t maxx in the mail right. i got a extra one and mixed and matched parts to make a complete aluminum chassis. i put the os 18 in it the thing will not crank in the truck but i take it out of the thruck a pull the cord while i am holding it the thing will scream with one pull. what is the factory tunning for this carb? i need help. I'm tire of getting blisters between my fingers. thank for the help.

Does the truck try to roll when you pull the cord? If it starts, the needles aren't that far off. I know it's terrible to start an engine with no load on it(out of the truck). More info. How old is the engine? Is it sealed? New glow plug? Tell us everything.

It won't crank or it won't start? If it won't crank (or is very hard to crank), then it could be seized CB bearings or clutch shoes are all jacked up and dragging, or your flywheel is hitting something. If it won't start, it could still be any of those. ;)

I just had something similar in my jato. I don't recall what I was doing, may have been installing a smaller spur... or larger. Regardless, I didn't realize it when doing the install, but the flywheel was rubbing on a piece of plastic molding. Since I was in the field, I just broke out a knife and shaved the plastic a bit where it was touching and then it fired right up. Until I did that, it wouldn't start for the life of me.

okay heres whats going on. i can get it started no.( disassembled the engine and cleaned). and i was tunning it i think and i got it so close. and it flipped and shut off. now it wont start to save my life any ideas

the easyest way to do a locker is to pore the diff, spider gears with J-B weld. been running mine hard serf with no shaft braking, however i dont pore the power on while turning. but i do some hard brakeing and spin around at the same time.

yep matt is right. most of what i do is drag race type runs. how ever when i try to do donuts on hard surface it doesn't want to do it, it wants to go straight. but if you want to do drag race type running i recommend a locker, you get much more power to the ground. on street cars if you have a posi and you punch the throttle, and the traction is low, both tires spin violently, and the car will spin around so fast its like wakening up from a bad dream. but i havent had it happen on my t-maxx, how ever it might under the right conditions
