well i called HPI a while back and asked them about a broken steering servo and dog bones , i was afraid they would say i broke them due to abuse but they told me send them in and they would replace . now on the dog bones not only did they replace the broken ones they sent me all 6 dog bones the 4 for the axles and the 2 driveshafts and on the bag it said updated hope this means they are stronger. well thats it just a little FYI!!!!!!!

Hmm this is good to know cause all my dog bone are toasted. Already bought a heavy duty set but still require to replace the other set. Guest I will be calling HPI in the morning about some dog bones.

Looks like I'll be doing the same; time to give HPI a ring and acquire my back up set of CVDs.

The original set have a design flaw. So, I am sure HPI has been working on cranking out the "updated" versions expecting the onslaught of Savage owners crying for replacements to their broken dogbones.

If you want to know the design flaw, it is the fact that the shaft narrows abruptly near the dog bones. You have a shaft that is pretty much constant in diameter until you get to about half an inch from each end. There the shaft takes a very sharp change in diameter. By sharp I mean a non gradual sloping change. This "sharp" area creates a weakness in the shaft that is prone to shear stress when torqued.

That is part of the problem Skymaxx. Another part of the problem with the dog bone is the quality of the metal used. It is a very low grade steel. I think I will really have to get a full set of stainless shafts made. Then if HPI replaces my broken ones I will just have those as backups.

I hear you. I have already upgraded my shafts and have the stock ones as my back up set, but an improved set to back up the Hot Bodies set I have is always a good thing.

Hey SkyMaxx did you get a hold of HPI reference the dog-bones. Well I got hold of them today seems there was a flaw in them. I am going to be returning them tomorrow for full replacements. Well I guess I will use them as back-ups.

I have not called them on the dog bones yet, but will probably this week. Been rather busy. It is good to know that their customer service is such that they will take care of the problem for you.

honestly they seem to be very helpful on all parts just send in the broken stuff worst they can do i send them back without replacement. also i sent my hotbodies stuff in that was broke like a bent shock and a center drive shaft that lost the pin and the broken clutches they called today and said they will be replacing them as soon as theyu come in stock . also from hpi i broke the steering servo from crashing tooo much and they replaced that also.

That's good to hear lerninnitro. I don't know were everyone was getting that the HPI tech support was bad. I have had good going so far.

Learninnitro, would HPI's customer support be eaqualing that of...say...Traxxas? Just wondering because traxxas really helped me out with my rustler and stuff like that.

Alien, you won't need to have a stainless set made, Racers Edge already makes a set in stainless.

Racers Edge

New Era makes a set of titanium dog bones.

Yes I cold buy them at $40US per pair or have all 4 made for about $30Cdn. hhm you do the math and while you are figuring it out I will get the 4 dog-bones made. :)

All I did was supply you with a link to someone who already made them. How was I to know you had a source to have them made. Excuse me for trying to help out. Your scarcasm was not appreciated.:nope:

:sorry: if I offended you NCNitro, but if you had read the whole thing from the start you would have caught that I was going to get them made. But I do thank you for the help anyways. If you take your stock dogbones to any machinist that knows what he is doing. Then they could make them for you.

I read the whole thing from the start. It's just it is usually more expensive to have one of something made, than to buy one from a manufacturer who makes thousands. I was just trying to help, it's great if you can get them made that cheaply, good luck with them.

NP partner. I am going to see if the guy will make me a few set's as I bet I can sell a few pair to the other guys in my area.
