Lithium Polymer versus Lithium Ion

I don't have much experience with electrics yet. Could anybody explain the difference and pros and cons of Lithium Ion versus Lithium Polymer? It seems like everyone is running lithium polymer. Is there a reason?

good LiIons last longer than Lipos...

very famouse for transmitter (Multiplex) and receivers are the Konions here in Europe..

they don´t need balancing
they have the hard shell
they are very robust (even when discharged to 0V the often see no damage from that !)
they last VERY long (over 700cycles so far, still running good, in a funflyer as motor-batterie at a friend of mine !)
they have low selfdischarge (like lipos too) whats a benefit over NiMh

besides: Konion get better...
some people report, that they notice that even after 70cycles the batts still become better
on the other hand there are many Lipo-Users which lipos are already dead after 70cycles

It seems that lipos are lighter but li-ion batteries seemed to be used more in planes.

Well from what I understand the Li-Ion batteries are twice the size and twice the weight. You can charge them at a higher charge rate, but the whole size and weight issue throws them out of the mix for me. I'm trying to shave every gram I can on my ride, so the last thing I would want to do is get a battery that's bigger and heavier.
