Have any of you guys seen this?
[ame]http://www.metacafe.com/watch/788668/worlds_most_dangerous_battery/[/ame]

pretty crazy, would suck for that to happen with all my nitro fuel and trucks in my basement lol
i dont know if anyone has already posted this but ill post it anyways

Yeah, it's been quite well established how volatile LiPo's are. Especially when damaged or improperly charged. Most people will use a few precautions if they switch to them. They will use LiPo charging sacks which will contain any flames if they battery purges. And they will get something akin to an ammo box to store them in when they're not in use.

And that is why I'm nervous about using them. Granted, they're a great technology, but the whole burst into flames thing has me leery.

When traveling, I use a hard sunglass case to transport. Just the right size, and protects from anything falling on em. While at home, i use a pelican case to store, and charge in.

Yeah, I'm not into electric rc yet but if i do i think ill stay with other batterys lol

holy crap!!! now i dont wanna charge mine anymore lol.

thats why we use them!!! Anything in the wrong hands is dangerous.

I just want it to be known that I was leary as well, but you have to understand that most of the guys on youtube are EXTREMELY abusing these batteries in order to get them to explode. As long as you use a proper charger and don't abuse them, LiPo is completely safe technology. Now I had a huge explosion with NiMH, so I think people have a false sense of security with them. HeartBreak, you will see when you do make the switch that they are no moer dangerous than the other batteries, unless you over and under charge them for hundreds of cycles, pole holes in them, hold them underwater, shoot them, and then put them on youtube, which seems to be popular lol.

Well, there goes my plans for next friday night :\.

Seriously, anyone that knows me knows I baby my packs. I just don't like the way they're constructed. Seems a little "flimsy" to have such a volatile material in nothing more than what looks like a foil baggy.

Many of the packs are now encased in hard packaging that's quite durable. In fact, most packs are that way now because of ROAR specifications. Also, please know that I'm not arguing with you or anything like that, I'm just passing along information :)

Heh, I know.... I'm just bein a smart aleck.

I am glad to see that the batteries are getting a bit safer in construction. I might bite the bullet and upgrade over the winter, after I tackle a few other projects.
