So I'm fairly new to This, anyway i was wondering if someone can give me a lil help. I want to make the antenna tube a bit shorter, I just think it looks a little too long for my buggy. If i shortened it will it affect the radio range? Also how can i find out what the range on my radio is?

To find range, ask your wife/gf or a friend to "Baby sit" your vehicle while you take a walk down the street, having first turned the receiver on and tested everything works. Then take your cell fone & talk to them while you keep pulling the throttle trigger as you walk down the street. As soon as they say the servo's have stopped moving, you have found your range limit. Of course once you find this limit, instantly subtract a "Safe Zone" of at least 50 feet.b (thats not as far as you think it is, about 16 yards.)

Granted, you may look like a plonker yanking the trigger on the transmitter while talking on the fone and walking down the street, but it does work.

I asked my missus to "Baby Sit" my buggy while i went for a walk to test the range of my new spektrum radio. I was amazed at how far the range actually was !!!

Oh ok I see. I would just have to measure to see how far it actually is? Also can some one tell me about the antenna? I am also having a problem. The other day i took it out for a bit and it was doing fine as far as i know. But sometimes it would idle for a couple of minutes just fine but then it would shut off. Any suggestions anyone? How much smoke is suppose to come out when idling? and what is it suppose to sound like? Sorry like i said I'm fairly new to all this. Also it "spits" out just a little bit of "fuel" or what ever it is out of the exhaust. Is this normal and if so how much is suppose to come out.

DO NOT cut the antenna wire! These antennas are tuned to their frequency by the physical length of said wire. If you shorten your wire your will move the frequency that the antenna "sees" higher than the transmitter transmits at. You will severely shorten your range (maybe to a matter of feet). DO NOT DO IT!!!

who said anything about cutting antenna wires ?

Also, if its "spitting a bit of fuel" from the exhaust, it means you maybe running a little rich, not a bad thing by any account as it protects the engine, it could also be residue from the break in process and rich needle settings. You may need to "Lean" the settings of the LSN or HSN by an 1/8 of a turn. Check your manual, if you have one, to see what the recomendations are for tuning the engine. If not, ask the forum, you should get all the help you need then.

After 5 years of nitro, i'm still learning about things myself, not neccesarily engines per se, but about everything else, little tips and tricks i didnt know and so forth, about new vehicles (to me at least) etc.
