I was charging my peak performance 2400 mah battery pack the one day and all of a sudden its at capacity of only 400 mah. The battery was fine and charged around 2 amps or so everytime. I'm using a venom pro charger plus but was using a duratrax piranah charger previously. I've also charged other batteries on the same charger and their fine so its not the charger. So my questions are why would this battery just die out of nowhere and is it because its a nicd? Thanks in advance for any advice given, Steve

NiCd's are prone to memory.

Not properly stored in a discharged state will cause the problem you are describing. Over charging them can also cause damage and premature failure of the pack. Even a peak detecting charger can over charge a pack.

For RC use, the NiCd pack is dead in favor of NiMh packs.

They were not taken care of and they sat on the shelf for about 2 yrs or so. Purchased them in 2008 and walked away from the hobby due to time restraints. Now all of my packs are stored properly and discharged prior to storage. I also have 4 nimh packs I use for my electrics and engine starters(ROTO AND PRO).
