Hey all,
is it normal for the shocks on SS kits to like like sieves? 5 of the 8 shocks on my truck have completely leaked all the oil out of them (truck is 2 weeks old). The other 3 have slightly less than 1/2 the oil left in them. I took the empty ones apart and they were all assembled the same and jive with the instructions. Trying to grip that shaft to take it apart sux!

To stop the leaks you're going to have to either buy new shocks or take add some new o-rings to the seal cups...You can also try tightening the seal cups to tighten the seal around the shaft...Then you can add shock oil and see if they hold......

that is just weird, I'm running stock shocks on 1 of my savages and they have never leaked oil. Did you lube the O-rings when you installed them and are you sure they are assembled correctly?

A little teflon tape around the threads before you put the caps on should fix the leaks, super glue is way to extreme, and makes them no longer rebuildable.

thanks for the replies... I did lube the o-rings and while I was pretty sure they're put together correctly, I'm having doubts.
I have a couple preassembled spares hiding somewhere. I'll track those down, take one apart and compare the assembly.

The oil isn't leaking out of the threaded caps. Instead it seems to be leaking right out of the shaft hole.... ? don't know if that helps at all. It will prob be the weekend before I can dig into this but I'll post back whatever I find.

thanks again everyone.

Are your shafts really roughed up or bent? If not, then sounds like you have some crappy o-rings.

I run stockers on my savage with 45 weight oil. Would have rather run 40, but all I had on hand was 45. When I took them apart, the oil was all still there. This truck had seen lots of abuse prior, so they are capable of holding their oil. ;)
